I've seen this theory before, several times, and I've agreed with it every time. :)

My theory has been along these lines since Halo 1 and definately after Halo 2. I look to the theory of evolution for this, even though I don't believe it(but whatever). With Evolution the entire point of a species is to reproduce and continue the existence of the species. So before humans, there were the Forerunners and they built a civilization that was technologically advanced. As they explored space they eventually found the flood (Note: It says in H1 that the flood were found not created by the Forerunners.) So in order to study the flood for their growth and regenerative purposes which would be helpful to medicine and prolonging life, they built research stations like the 343 Guilty Spark Level on the Halos and the Flood Research Space Station that serves as the the Level "The Arbiter" in Halo 2. The Halos were built to contain the flood and destroy their food which would be the only effective way to annihilate the flood. They also build the Ark. Obviously with all these measures taken the Flood are the key to something. So the Flood break free and the Forerunners lose control. They go to the Ark to remote set off the Halos to destroy all life in the Universe to kill the Flood. The Forerunners planned on dying. But to continue their species they left their DNA behind in the Ark and a way to revive the species. The DNA is left with genetic or memory imprints to lead the Humans in the same direction they went so they could continue the former technological empire. The DNA implementation explains why Forerunner things are familiar but Human technology isn't exactly the same either.

How do you not believe in evolutioon? Yeah, you're right it's a conspiracy created by scientists....with no possible gain *rolls eyes* Seriously....WTH?

i find it funny that bungie got most of their story from the bible if you read close enough in on the Halo storyline. I bet that if we read the bible from front to back we should find our answers to what halo 3 will be about. It's like they are making it way too easy to find out. This i great!

Okay, I just found the final nail in the coffin to the idea that humans are not solely the reclaimers.

Look at the back of the conversations of the universe booklet. The name reffrences. Look at our names for them "brute, elite, grunt, ect". Now what are these names under?
RECLAIMER REFFRENCES.

Aerospace engineers build planes, civil engineers build targets
Another died from a lead overdose

WOOOOOOOW!!! you could be right but then why are we so UNADVANCED compaired to the covenant?

I've said this before man. It's because the forerunners didn't want us leaving the planet too quickly, before we had a new civilization established.

My Stats

"my name is random bungie forum moderator, my special power is to delete productive threads because they offend me because im a crybaby. off to give props to stupid h3 conspiracy theories"

if any one here has read 1984, there is a ministry of truth, which is in charge of discrediting it, and taking away the past, much like the prophet of truth. three prophets, three ministries. just thought id point that out. if anyone has the book with them or anything maybe look into it for clues i dont have mine anymore.

p.s. i remember in an interview or something bungie says what books and movies inspired them etc, but i cant remember if 1984 is on that list.

Wow dude, i just read your post and I have had the same theory since Halo 1. I have one thing to add though. I dont remember for sure, but i think in Halo 1 in either 343 guilty spark or the library, the monitor says something about "you returning" or "you coming back". Like i said i cant remember for sure but i know he said something like that. Anyway, if this is correct, that means that the monitor, built by the Forerunner, recognized humans. This means that humans WERE the Forerunner, or KNOWN by the Forerunner. I think ill go replay those levels to find out for sure, but in the meantime if anyone knows what he actually said, be my guest to tell what you think.

I morgon ska jag dö, men, valkyriorna och valhall väntar inte på mig när jag är död!

Never take me seriously.

How could Humans be Forerunners and MC able to use there computers?

Well what if the Forerunners created a time machine (but leave their important structures Arc and the Halos) so they could start again and not make the same mistakes agin by leaving clues behind to stop the events that wiped them out from ever happening.

In time humans were to discover what happend and detonate the Halos from the Arc without destroying themselves (again).

But how do the Covanant fit in?

When turning back time things diddn't happen the same. In another galaxy the Covenant races evolved and discovered the forerunner artifacts before us (which wasnt ment to happen) and some how got mixed up and thought the Halos were somting else the holy artifacts which started the great jorney.

At the end of the credits in Halo CE the monitor flys across the screen is he on his way to tell the Covenant about earth? if so, so they come to find a way to stop the Flood as the monitor has told them how.

Why fight the humans?

They found Halos before Humans, there would have been a monitor on the others correct?
the monitor could have been corroupt after beind arround for so long and thought the covenant were the Forerunners and lead them to earth to detonate all the Halos. They thought we were going to try to stop them so the Phrophets start a war with the Humans.

So in Halo3 the Covenant and Humans discover that Humans are the Forerunners and allie together to stop the Flood before it is to late and the Flood destroy all living things in the universe.

This in my opinion explanes the MC's ability to interact with the Forerunner systems and the message Cortana gives us in the Halo3 trailer.

Another thing: If we were meant to find the Halos, we were supposed to continue the research. There wasn't supposed to be a War with the Covies, we were supposed to understand the facilities, we were supposed to get everything up and running again. When things didn't happen that way, 343 Guilty Spark thought MC was trying to re-zap the galaxy due to the outbreak.

Another thing is we can look into the Noah story and find termological 'puns' to use for proof. Noah built an Ark to escape the Flood. The Forerunners built an Ark to escape the Flood.

In addition that Humans can be the only reclaimers or able to operate the machinery(Tartarus shoves Captain Keyes to put the Index in), it makes perfect sense that we are the Forerunners. (Plus, the Ark is on Earth).

You do have a point. I was wondering why the chief was walking so casually in the trailer. In Halo 1 and 2, whenever he has to get somewhere important, he's always running. In the trailer, he is walking very casually with his gun over his shoulder. Also, the covenant don't seem to notice him at all, I mean he's standing right there. Maybe this is because he was expecting this and the whole thing was planned out.
