well in the Q/A of Bungie, I saw they said that we would recognize something about the artifact in the trailer... well i have made my assumption...
1: the seperate pieces all look like the "flare" like structure on installation 04
2: they also remind me of what a unsc class ship such as the PoA
3: .:look at this:. there is a capital ship next to every flap perhaps powering it up?

finally just as speculation... I believe that the Moon is what that object is pointed at because in the main FMV sequence of Halo 2 it was the first thing you saw... and directly under it you see where the covie land on new mombasa/old so i think that the object opening has something to do with the moon, such as fireing at it and suddenly its a do all end all device... MORE SNOOPING I NEED TO DO!!!

Halo 3 multiplayer is frustrating.

Not a bad thought.

Nice thoughts. Perhaps if it is firing at the moon, and the moon contains / is the Ark, it's attempting to destroy the Ark?

do you now those things that rise when it opens up, those looks like the forunner ship that the chief was on at the end of halo 2, makes me think, that ship might be a key of somesort that opens it up. Well, it has to be involved with that structure.

"Sure. I can't move a rock with my mind, but, boy, can I make that rock think it's been moved."
―Corran Horn

I love this theory, myself. I had a very similar one earlier. I think it possible that the flood have activated whatever we see in the trailer, which is not the Ark itself, but a way to access the ark. A key to open heaven's door, as it were. It is possible that it shot the beam at the moon, revealing the location of the ark. It also explains why the covie ships turn around. They could have been trying to stop the flood, but have failed, so they're on the way to the Ark itself, now. It also explains why the covie cruisers in the background don't move - they're staying to mop up the flood. It's the Arbiter/Miranda/Johnson who are heading for the Ark.

Or maybe uncover it. If the arc is on the moon, its not on the surface.

It doesn't look like its firing to me, watch the trailer, and on the closest flap-wing thing to the MC, there is a gap that goes to the center of the structure, and it the gap increases while the flaps are going up (Perhaps its opening!).

I don't think the covie ships turn around, looks to me like a shockwave hits them when the device opens, in fact, im positive.

^^^ i would argue that that is what happened as well. the ships aren't exactly fleeing, they are just hit by the shockwave.

Well umm... yeah it does look like that... but i have a better speculation... like i said, in some way the ships (possibly with the surface to ship anti grav lift technology or etc) they are powering up the artifact.... hmmm and yes i am ameable that it IS like i stated earlier firing at the moon... and more.... think about it.... cause in the beginning of halo 2 when the upgraded MC is introduced, you see the high charity morph into the moon around earth... and aparently the entire invasion is directly underneath the moon....? hmmm double hmmmm

Some of your theories included shooting the device at the Moon. Although not exactely ill-conceved, it's inaccurate. The gravitational point that connects the Earth with the Sun's orbit is suspended between the Earth and the Moon. If this design was intentional, that means the Forerunners planed on destroying the Ark, the Moon, and hurling the Earth into space. Just throwing it out there...

i can stop modders all i need is a combat shotgun and a -blam!-load of airline tickets

Make sure its not the game shotgun because then you might be point blank and not hit anything

Whoa. Good thought. The moon could easily have something to do with everything (assuming that Earth is the Ark). Just speculation, but good idea.

the ships are hit by a shockwave, but the shockwave comes at them so fast that they probably couldnt have responded.at any rate they CLEARLY flee the structure immediately after the shockwave passes. you can see their engines fire up and you can see them accelerate as well. plus the ship in the upper left corner moves as if it is turning on its own power, rather than being moved by the shockwave.

if you put a werewolf on the moon, would it remain in werewolf form forever, or would it become some sort of super werewolf?

  • 05.11.2006 5:22 PM PDT

Formerly known as HunTERminator

It is my belif that this is like the cavern that Fred and the other Spartans left to defend reach when Chief left. This is where they found the time warping crystal and seemed very significant at that point. this is fairly unfounded however, partly because its on a whole different planet.

sweet!!!
iam lovin this... but whoever stated earlier about the sun moon earth trifecto is DARN RIGHT but also...! also...! what if its like some every 1000 year cycle or in the forunner generation... 10,000 years... AHH god this is cool... but keep in mind that the moon around earth was the first thing you saw when after the FMV in the beginning of Halo 2... even before you saw earth itself.... *RANDOM THOUGHT* - The moon has a BIG crator on it and is seen daily... could bungie of tied in that maybe the device is pointed at that and, the last time containment was breached and the flood was spreading... the Foreunner fired the last resort cradle of life <earth...aka arc> and made that crator because the moon could EASILY be of forunner halo technology but unlike a halo ring, its reversed......oh and does the number 1183 bear any meaning btw?

I'm one of those storm chasers that will never have a TV show because I don't scream at clouds.

I don't know if this occured to anyone else, but the opening of the flaps on the Ark looked very similar to the way that Delta Halo reacted after Tartarus forced Commander Keyes to insert the Index.

I think when they said that we would recognize the design of the object, Bungie may merely be talking about it being of forerunner creation.

Maybe the moon is the sattelite the ark will use to transmit the signal to all the Halos.

  • 05.11.2006 5:34 PM PDT

That sort of makes sense...destroying the moon would throw earth's oceans into chaos and the chunks of debris could become meteorites.
