It could explain alot of things. Including when the prophet first came to earth (in halo 2) and said that he didn't think there would be so many people here, Why in the Halo 3 trailor it shows a huge opening in the earth. Maybe the way to the library to get the artifact and activate Halo. Express your opinions~

Earth isn't a Halo, it is/has the 'ark'.

I said no because if there is a Halo inside of Earth, what's the point of remote activation for the (other) seven Halos?

Meh, Regret was most likely looking for artifacts, if he was looking for another Halo (and we must ask why when they already found another one ofter the first was destroyed) i believe the entires covenant fleet would be helping. And Regret didnt expect humans to be here at all.

Oh and the ark is either the ship, or is on earth. And since the blast that come out of the forerunner structure was similar to when the Halo ignited, and since you can activate all halo's from the ark, its makes sense.

And the most obvious is why would the build a Halo inside a planet?

Yeah, I think that would be kind of hard...

halos gather energy in the middle of the ring before firing it out, that thing was firing upwards...

Well, I saw the huge opening of something in the earth, and it kind of made sense. It makes more sense of the Arc being inside the earth, and that it starts all the halos. Considering I never read the books, just played the games.

How would you know how a Halo fires off? It was never shown how one of them would blow up...

Now I see it again, there is a HUGE chance that that isn't even earth. Considering it has a sign shaking in the wind of a freaking grunt. and it looks like there are no human structures anywhere on it. Except for the downed ship (which MC might have came there on) and MC himself.

these are very good points, but i have counters for them both, first off, choc chip cookies are not the best (i know you didn't say this, but i didn't want to put two replies) secondly it could be a halo, if the forerunners put the arc in the earth, why not make a halo the arc, which begs the question "whats the use" right... also, i think they built earth, it makes sense that they build a halo, close to a human civilization, then build earth around it, then we'd get killed immediately. also, i must congratulate you, the light that came out of the structure was very like the signal that delta halo released, and it would have been about the same time frame (slipspace ruptures stop time (relative time) for the person traveling space, i think) so chief would have gotten to earth about when the signal would have been recieved by the structure, good points everyone.
for the record, i like peanut butter cookies.
have a nice day.

It hasnt been confirmed that slip space effects time an all that relativity complex i wont go into it stuff. but seriously, whats the use of Halo inside a planet, anything a halo fires is sent into the middle, at least i dont see where else it would go. and i presume that would be a bad idea to shoot a beam into the center of a planet...

But i'm pretty confident that this is the ark and that its sending a message to the Halo's... or telling them to kill everyone...

Penut Butter cookies? argg, i dont want to imagine :)

I considered that actually, but most likely it is the Ark.
Because that would make more sense....

And It is on Earth...Bungie says so.

The Earth Hides a Halo Under its Crust

I don’t really know how the discussion has been progressing on this theory. Though I would have to sat that this was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Halo3 Trailer this morning. And I have been thinking about this theory all day.

I base this assumption on firstly the apperence of the dome structure itself. It is also mentioned in the Bungie’s Halo3 FAQ “Q: What was that crazy huge dome buried under Earth? A: We're not saying, but Halo fans may recognize something about its design.”
This made me think of the outer surface detail of the Halo’s. They with out a doubt have this same dome design on their exteriors. You can see this on this official bungie wallpaper entitled “Delta Halo Exterior” located here:
http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halo2/wallpapers/H2-Delta_ Halo_Exterior_1600.jpg
Now when I first looked at this image and compared it to the dome in the Halo3 Trailer I first thought that there is far too few of the huge panels that push skyward, Though if you look at the spacing as they seem to be in pairs, and count them. I counted fourteen panels in the Halo3 Trailer. Then now go back to the Delta Halo Exterior image and look at the largest dome structures we count… oh, only twelve. But hang on… if you look at the smaller dome structures I count fourteen.

Okay. So now I load up Encarta and using its atlas I look for Mombassa in Africa and notice that it lies about 400km south of the equator. Definitely to southward of the equator to align with the larger dome structures and perhaps far to southward to align with the smaller dome structures as well. However just up the road from Mombassa is the town of Voi. Same name from the track titled “Road to Voi” from the second movement of the Epilogue on the Halo 2 Soundtrack. This town is around 280km South of the Equator. So if A Halo’s Equator where aligned with the Earths Equator then the town of Voi would make a likely dig site for this smaller dome structure. Finally the last piece of evidence to back up this theory is that the Earths diameter and a Halo’s diameter are both around 10,000kms. So there we have it, we have a WOGD (Weapon of Galactical Destruction) buried right here on Earth.

I say no, because the size of the previous installations would not even begin to fit inside our planet. Furthermore, suspension of disbelief is powerful, but to suggest that our planet contains that much metal but no one has noticed is a little far fetched. One several mile wide artifact? Hideable. A ring much larger than the planet? Not so much.

Read the Bungie article, they say "to give you a view of a covenant controlled Earth"
Keyward being the "Earth" part, it is earth.

um..... for one the master chief is on earth genius, and two you would have to be retarted to not know that there is an artifact on earth... after watching the trailer and reading what bungie wrote about H3 so far.... "IN THE AFRICAN DESERT"... how many AFRICAN DESERTS do you think there are kid... and yes i like cookies

Actually The Earth's Diameter is in fact (12756.34kms at its widest point) larger than Halo's (10044.60kms) and the majority of the Earth's inner Core is Nickel and Iron so it would be extremely hard to detect a Halo under the Earths crust using Metal Scanning as a sole manner of detection. So my theory still sits with science!

As for the concept of building a Halo beneath Earth’s surface, I never said that. Though why would a race as advanced as the Forerunners who pioneered and mastered slipspace technology not be able to achieve some sort of slipspace matter exchange system and build this Halo right were the asteroid belt is in our solar system using the available materials in the asteroid fields and then teleporting the completed Halo whilst simultaneously exchanging its volume with the same volume of the Earths crust and then this crust material reappears in place of the newly built halo amongst the asteroid belt leaving us all none the wiser.
