I could answer this one, easily.
It says that Cheif Mendez (i think his name was?) Was leaving specifically to train spartans on another planet. Now, whether he had made it there alive or not, i don't know, but as John said..."Nothing can kill the cheif". Looking back on it now, i dont really know if he was talking about himself or mendez...:P
As for gearing up? There always seems to be an upgrade to the Cheifs shiny armour, so i say, why not in this edition of Halo as well?
And as far as the latest book goes, i think we might see something happen relating to the original spartans...especially kelly...which implies that the the Doctor that took her away will be making a debut as well on H3.
My verdict? Things are going to be pretty interesting once this thing hits the shelves...or, when people pop it into their box.
When John said "nothing can kill the Chief", he was about 8 years old. He couldn't have known he'd grow up to be a Master Chief Petty Officer.
I don't think there will be any major upgrades to the Chief's armor, as the time span between the end of Halo 1 and the beginning of Halo 3 is only like a month. There may be minor upgrades, but not a whole new suit.
I also don't think that there will be any other Spartans in the game, as that part of the story is left to the books. It would probably throw many players off if other Spartans just showed up out of nowhere.
Remember, not every Halo player has read the books, which is why the games don't follow the books.
