Subject: Hey guys I have a cool group for you to join

Lurking like a baws. Totally. It's like totally important if I post because I barely post.

...

WHO EVEN LOOKS AT SIGNATURES ON BUNGIE.NET ANYWAY???

I first read the thread title and expected a member being confused on where to post his group.

Then I saw your name and it became clear that you didn't mean it.

I'm a bad person now, cause The Storm said so. :P

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I admit that I clicked this thread with the intention of locking it.

However, I'm now thinking about locking it for a different reason. It true that I "judged a book by its cover" as you put it. There's a good reason for that here though, because this is the only thread I've ever seen that had not actually been about advertising a group with that kind of title. That's something like one in a thousand (at least...I don't actually count them after all). So I'd say that its not me being a bad person, but me being pragmatic due to an overwhelming experience of precisely what I expected. Which the title once again misrepresented.

Which brings me to why I'm considering locking this. Its yet another misleading title thread to some degree, but also an actual group advertisement, sans the link (which is the only reason why I have not locked it yet). I understand the motive of this, so I probably won't lock it, but I still don't understand the point. This is a thread with a misleading title, made to show us the folly of using our experiences to form an expectation. Its funny that while it sort of does that, it makes a much more egregious folly (IMO) by being a bait and switch.

Oh well, two cents posted, moving on.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

To lock or not to lock, that is the question huh?

It makes sense when you read the OP and attracts people but it doesn't "lie" based on the topic.

The topic holds a certain expectation among the majority of users here, which leads to the sort of bait and switch feel and a general since of being mislead. However, the topic is merely walking the line in my opinion, which I assume is also why Cam hasn't outright slapped a lock on the thread.

Stupidity, when sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from magic

I'd almost say it counts as a misleading title even though it's certainly in the grey simply because the author intended it to mislead (albeit to prove a very interesting point).

Just my opinion on the issue, and I hope it isn't locked regardless.

Exactly. What he said. Lulz.

But it depends on where you post a group advertisement. If you had posted this in "The Classifieds" it might have been a different story. Personally, I think advertisements can get somewhat annoying. Especially group PM's.

Don't do it too many times, or you'll get banned for abusing the report system.

Also, combo (sort of).

I'm going for my Reportinaire right now!

And avatar combo.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

I don't understand what you're trying to prove.

Everyone makes judgments before they open a thread (Hey I know the OP, Hey that's stupid, Hey he misspelled a word in the title, Hey an employee posted, Hey that's got a lot of responses, on and on). I highly doubt people would read through every thread (and post) on B.net in order to find something they want to comment on. That's silly and the whole process is streamlined by the capacity to think.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Ads are lockable.

The thread's title doesn't need to be misleading for the original poster to try to make his point. If I was a moderator, I would consider editing the original post to change the subject line myself, but I don't think it's worth a lock after an amount of discussion has already taken place.

Well I would be miffed if I saw a thread saying "free candy", and entering to discover it was a topical debate about euros...

I hate, hate getting group invites. When you them almost all the time there is no point in reading them. I always block ppl who sent me group invites, that seems to work cuse I don't get them often anymore. If I want to join a group I'll look in the classifieds.

Well, I did make a judgement, but then I saw your name and thought that you wouldn't do this, and I was right. It is difficult to not make a judgement before you click a thread, but it easily changes for me after I have read through the OP or whole thread.

And one thing I dislike is when I send someone a group invite and they don't even bother looking at the message. They seem to think that every group is bad so it isn't worth spending 5 seconds to look at it.
