THE DARK RETURNS WINTER '09.

Hey community, I was hoping we could open up a thread to discuss the latest book Glasslands. I love the lore, but sometimes I get a little lost. So far, I'm up to about chapter 4. So Halsey and Mendez are on the dyson sphere where onyx used to be and slowly making their way into some secret chamber with her Spartans.

At the same time, an oni team with odsts seem to be planning an assault on an elite colony for some reason.

Please feel free to add any details or insight u may have pulled yourself.

Glasslands isn't really a book for people who don't properly know the lore. You need to know what Sanghelios is, you need to have read the Nylund books, you need to know about ONI and their dealings, etc.

Yea I'm pretty up on all that, I've read and own all the books. Ghosts of onyx was a little hazy for me. I can't exactly remember how they all ended up in the sphere for instance

They ended up in the Sphere because they were looking for new technology and the Covenant were hot on their tails.

so they just stumbled onto it? From what I understand, onyx was destroyed(how?) And the dyson sphere is where the planet used to be.

WaS the sphere inside the planet? I'm hearing its in the same space but in another dimension or something. Its also what I'm assuming the chief is heading for in the halo 4 trailer

Oh, just read GoO again and Wiki it.

I hate it when a community where you're supposed to discuss things of mutual interest tells me to just wiki things. If I wanted to do that I would have. I was hoping we could talk about it and share thoughts. Telling me to read the book again isn't exactly helping.

I'll just be arrogant since nobody else will do it.

This is the bungie forums, You are more or less expected to read all of the books. That being said, you aren't going to understand Glasslands if you didn't Read the other books (especially Onyx).

We don't do "Book Clubs" here, the waypoint forum has them. How can we talk in-depth about the novel if you won't get half of the things we are talking about? Not to mention there are already threads on the First page and you can find more using the search bar or Google.

Ok 2 things, if u read what I initially said, I have read all the books, I was just looking for a little clarity from fellow halo fans.

And second, I have been on these forums for years and have had plenty of helpful insight from people that want to talk about it. Your arrogance is unjustified. If you don't want to discuss it. Simply don't waste your time commenting and save the room for people who actually want to help.

Ignore Grey he can, on occasion, be a bit of a grumpy person.

OT I would discuss the book but I don't want to ruin it for you, you should finish reading it then come back.

See there are civilized people on this forum. Thank you WCD45.
Like i said i was only about 4 chapters in. If you would like, you can talk about those chapters. And also help clarify the dyson sphere thing.

A Dyson sphere is a globe built around a star (I think the enterprise got stuck in one once) where humans/forerunners etc can live on the inside protected from a cataclysm going on outside. I think it also has something to do with harnessing all the energy emmited from the star.

Sorry I don't know that much about Dyson spheres and the book is never massively clear on the subject. Maybe we get to find out more in the next novel.

I hear the sphere is in some kind of interdimensional slipspace portal. So the theory could be made that when the Chief went through, (although it seems as if he didnt make it) he could have made it to that particular part of slipspace. The question remains however, is if it was somehow inside onyx, near it or did Onyx have a portal to the Sphere. (the latter being the more likely possibility.

You're speaking in theories when there are facts which answer your questions.

Ghost of Onyx and Glasslands answer your questions. I'm not going to waste my time when you can just read them properly and found out yourself.

If you don't want to, fine. Just don't insist on discussing the matter when you refuse to finish the jigsaw.

I could never understand peoples reluctance to discuss these things. I guess the Halo community is not what it used to be. once again i dont know why you waste your time just to insult someone. I guess i'll go elsewhere. Somewhere where the community isnt so far up its own ass in arrogance to discuss a topic that we all love.

And frog, you dont want to waste your time explaining something, but you'll waste it by complaining about my topic. Grow up bro.

Hello. Reach is the first Halo game I have played and my style is mostly recreational.

WHAT?!

People who actually read Halo books? CRIKEY IT'S A WHOLE HERD!!!

This forum has rotted from within. People've stooped to the level of forming book clubs about Halo books.

Pathetic.

What's wrong with Halo books? They add to the lore, people enjoy them.

If you want to talk about Halo gameplay itself, go to the Reach forums. I think you'd enjoy it there, lots of people there to get in an argument about.

i'm going to have to agree with Wolver on this one.

If you can't understand the more simpler things in a novel and you're not getting a clear answer form people who understand it and don't want to take the time and energy to explain it, then you can:

1. Go to the Waypoint Forums

2. Google it.

3. Re-read the novel and examine evry tiny bit and ponder on it until you understand it.

Obviously this sounds incredibly d!ckish, and I can understand where your coming from, but as I've said before, try another method.

We don't want to discuss it because it's already been explained. The people left in this Forum that discuss things usually will discuss theories and the deeper things featured in the subtext of Halo lore.

And frog, you dont want to waste your time explaining something, but you'll waste it by complaining about my topic. Grow up bro. It's MUCH easier to complain about something in a sentence than have to give a 2 paragraph summary of what you don't understand.
