now, the guy in the trailer COULD or COULD NOT be John.... remember that this is Bungie's game, and they could change anything they want at any time. Although i believe it IS John, becuase why would bungie be so secretive about what they do and dont release to the public and say it IS MC, but then change it. It is bungie's game though, so i wouldnt jump to conclusions.

The books have no relation to the game in terms of storyline. And this is pointless because Bungie have said it is MC so no need to debate it isn't him because it is!

Also, why would cortana contact a different spartan than john and say "i know you" when she doesnt know any other spartan, then john. He proabably got his armour upgraded because if you think about it, MC had a different armour suit on Halo 2 To Halo 1.

There could possibly be other spartans out there, there could not, but this topic is about the spartan in the trailer so......

Oh come on...
1) It is definately MC. He is the "star" of the trilogy. He walks like him, he looks like him, he even smells like him ;p

2)There are no other spartans whatsoever cause we would have seen them by now. At trying times like these, it would be reasonable for them to stick together. You cannot say that they were on secret missions all this time, because we would hear their achievements. You cannot say that they where on some kind of "vacation" because this is just stupid.

3)The trailer is in the 1/3 of the game. There is no way the first level of the game is on the forerunner spaceship. It has to be on human territory. That is because the first level is always used to make the player more comfortable with the game, just like the first 2 games. And, you can bet that during that time , some modifications were made to the armor. Also, the weapon could be used in burst mode.

You do know that this trailer was taken from about a third of the way into the game right? Or so says the Bungie rep that was interviewed by Gamespot.

The 'new' armor is simply graphics. You see what the armor was meant to look like in halo 2. The Xbox didn't have enough power to get a realistic enough bitmap on there, but now we have one. This is a little more what MC would look like in real life.

If not that, it would probably be new gloves and a new visor, but there wouldn't be a whole new suit available after a month tops, though I think Halo 2 (with the time-warp crystal) only lasted a week..or less.

Also, who says Cortana was talking to the Chief? I think she was talking to Gravemind when she says "I know you"

Remember right before the level 343 Guilty Spark, when you're in the Control Room, and Cortana has all the info? I'm guessing something about Gravemind was in there, and before he starts asking questions, she tells him 'No funny business or I'll zap you' in a more evil tone.

Not really, if you listen properly you can hear gravemind in te backround say exacly what cortana says, especially where she says "Gods and Deamons".
I've got a thought that Gravemind is influencing Cortana and corrupting her AI.

Yeah his visor has changed and his gloves, its not the graphics not making me say that, its the actual structure of it.

Wrong. The books are canon and are defining elements of the Halo Universe. The Authors work closely with Bungie.

Have you noticed that his battle rifle has no scope on it. I think i prefered the burst fire on the BR than the auto gun on H1. I gotta take a vactation be back laterz ciao.

Well, a few tweaks to his looks aren't that bad, I mean comeon. It is clearly something that had to be rounded out for Halo 2 in higher definition, H3 will have more detail, and thus will look different than before...it's common sense..

As for Gravemind/Cortana, your idea seems pretty good too but I think mine is reasonable as well..

And, there's no way we're sure that it's Gravemind in the background, when an electronic voice slows down (due to the lag of her being corrupt from all of the Halo data), it slows down and gets a deeper tone.

Oh, another idea..remember the Covenant AI? I saw a thread in the forum about Ackerson and some secret project. It was also mentioned that he may have made a cortana copy, and given it to the Covies so they could have an AI for themselves..

Maybe Cortana thought the AI was harmless, but maybe parts of it - though not controlled, came back and started screwing with her systems..Remember, the Covie AI had a deeper voice that was warbled..so that's what can be talking while Cortana is..

I donno, I wish I wasn't so tired or I'd think it out a little more and put my thought together in an orginized manner..lol.

It is most amazing the way that Bungie can play the minds of idiots. I bet they are laughing it up listening to all this "its another Spartan" speculation.

They planted that "but why have the MCs gloves changed?" question into their FAQ to point out the mentality of the forum posters. They are being sarcastic and essentially telling the reader and viewer not tobe so god damn pedantic about every little thing.

Amatures.

I do think it is the Chief if I remeber right (Haven't played single player in months) the Chief at the end oh Halo 2 is riding on the exterior of some craft heading to earth and that his armor could be burned to hell from re-entry to earth and causing it to become Brown but either way I think he looks pretty -blam!-in. And once again I dont remeber the solo very well

Wrong. while the author works closely with bungie, that doesnt mean that the storylines run the same. Halo2is testemant to that, if there were other spartans alive, then we would have seen them in Halo 2. Plus, the majority of halo players dont read the books, and so bringing in lots of halo backstory or sidestorys would comfuse everyone. The master chief is the star of the series, and so if more spartans were brought in it would screw with the whole "last of his kind" thing. Come on guys, just coz some trashy books bring in all kinds of extras to the story as page filler, doesnt mean bungie will add it all to a standalone series.

Lol, i love this forum it gives me a good laugh everyday....almost like listening to a guy from georgia that is talking about his abduction experience....you know what i think they were showing the power of the 360 and what it can do....and a little glimpse into what kinda plans they have for the game...nobody reads, "this is for promotional purposes only"

Um, out of curiousity... who has read the books? anybody? anybody? Cause it seems like alot of people are saying there aren't any other spartans. Now are you saying there aren't any left? Cause that's partially true. I know of one spartan who was really beat to hell and swept away (presumably by the military faction rumored to want to create Spartan clones)

If you're saying that there aren't any left, I'll half believe you. If you're saying there weren't any other spartans ever, then I'll laugh. At you. Not just in general, at you.

Ok. You make me angry... few reasons. Yea, it is the MC, Bungie said so, no reason to speculate on that one.

There can be other Spartans, Bungie has the right to HALO's franchise... if they didn't approve of what was in the books, why would they let them be published? If there are other Spartans that survive in the books, why disappoint millions of fans who have read them? PLUS... first close up of him, just before he turns and looks at the Covenant air fleet, look at the top left of his visor... see the little blink of light? That could be an acknowledgement light... which the SPARTANS used to acknowledge each others commands. There is easily a possibility that there are more of them. And another thing... his armor is not upgraded, glove difference is not upgrade, and yeah, he can be the Chief and have an AR... he is on Earth afterall.. there's bound to still be marines with AR's.. the game doesn't HAVE to take place directly after Halo 2... there can be a few days difference.

Bottom line. It's the Chief. He has an AR. His gloves are different. There can be other Spartans. Halo 3 is gonna kick ass. Ok? Ok.

again with the blinking light on his helmet... it's freakin reflected lightning. If you guys are going to call little bits of light on his REFLECTIVE visor communication lights, get a closer look to really figure out what they are. Take the time and download the high res version if it keeps you from making retarded statements like that.

I'm sorry, but it's been said multiple times. It's not light communication. It's Master Chief no question. It's an assault rifle probably, but since it doesn't say "assault rifle" on the side, leave it alone! you dont know more than the next guy! There are other spartans, and whether or not their in Halo 3 is up to Bungie!

The books do follow along with the Halo trilogy, in fact they are designed to take place before and during it. Read the books to realize this. And hey, you might find out why Sargent Johnson never freakin dies in Halo 2! (if you read the books that is)

Seriously guys... common...

Wrong. We don't necessarily have to see them in Halo 2. Most of them had gone to hell and back on Reach, they could've been in like... rehab or something of the sort. And listen on metropolis... commanding officer says... "I didn't think they'd send A Spartan" A SPARTAN, is the operative phrase... he would've said YOU otherwise. Besides... it's like Star Wars, all the comics and books ADD to the series... fans who read them would complain greatly if the movies screwed them up. The books are as much a part of the HALO Universe as anything else.

As one of the few with a 360, I HAVE dled the hi-res version. Seen it on 32 inch HDTV as well (thanks Andrew) and it's not lightning. It's a light. You can tell, just look, lighting on such a REFLECTIVE visor would look like LIGHTNING not a small blinking light. It's possible.

He was saying he may have been communicating with others. MC had the communicator too..he was the leader..But I'm sure it was just a reflection.
It's a battle rifle probably, but since it doesn't say "battle rifle" on the side,
It's not a battle rifle, it's the Assault rifle. The gun is identicle to the AR from Halo 1, and looks nothing like the BR.

Yeah. That 'there is no spartans or we wouldve seen them in h2!!11oneone' arguement is really annoying me..The Spartans were alive during Halo 1, howcome we never saw them? Linda was on the PoA, why didn't we see her? There are other Spartans, Spread over Earth to maximize their ground-side defenses.
