I was just wondering what you guys thought. I hear the new Splinter Cell won't have a HUD to make it more cinematic-like. I personally like this idea in the game. And with Halo 2, the shield meter was almost completely useless due to no health meter. This could be removed in Halo 3.

No radar could make it a bit more interesting. Maybe a battle damaged Mjolnir suit huh? With less capabilities?

Of course SCDA is Third Person/Over The Shoulder while Halo 3 will be FPS. Maybe it wouldn't work with no HUD.

But what do you think?

It wouldnt be fun without a HUD, i mean MC has one anyway, so it makes more sense to have an HUD for him then it is in say COD2

I hope no game ever does this, it is THE worst idea ever, especially in King Kong- that got annoying really quick.

Hmm, I see your point. It is kinda cool in a third person but in a first person, especially when the main character has a HUD built into his helmet, isn't right.

But perhaps he could have a battle damaged HUD like I said above. One that is slightly malfunctioning or is flickering oddly, like static, radar damage, etc.

we already know what itd be like with no hud (by using the blind skull). besides, the hud is built into his suit. whats the point of making it that way and then take the hud out for this game?

Q. What do you get when you add 1 man, 1 car, and 1 rocket built for a jet?

A. A black smudge on the side of a cliff.

Yes it needs HUD, but you should be able to turn it off just by pushing some button in the Pause menu. That's all I ask. It would also make things easier for people who want to make videos like RvB.

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Yes, we need the HUD. Taking it out is just stupid, plus it would contradict the story of the Spartans and there capabilities, yadda yadda.

Yes & No,

I like how in Call of Duty 2 the HUD fades out when you dont shoot your weapon, but when you shoot , your ammo counter comes back in and shows it to ya.

Wouldnt mind that feature in Halo 3, I mean, I think it would give it a realistic feel, but without completly taking away the counter, health, ammo.

It would be cool just to roam around hudless, and actually fell like MC.

Well... Why not just put another Blind Skull in the game? That took off the HUD.

In othger thoughts.. I belive that we should get to see the MC's face... So with his helmet removed, the HUD should be gone for like a level or so...

i like the fact that youre thinking outside of the box, but maybe this time.. maybe too far :) i do, however, like your idea of a battle damaged HUD. i thought a while back it would be cool if the HUD wasnt stationary, and that it actually looked like your head was inside of a helmet (like in Metroid and Star Wars Commando).

Yeah, i hear in metroid prime some blood sometimes splats on your visor, that'd be well good.
Also, anyone else think that his armour looks bulkier than it did in halo 3? Im very pleased. I didnt like his armour in halo2, it was far too weedy, not bulky or tank like enough. Although on the DVD thing with it some bungie worker said they ment to do that (make his armour weedier) and make him look more human, i think that was a bad idea. Human tank all the way!

I respect your opinion, I'm probably just going to disagree with it.

A fading hud is what I'd like so when its not needed it dissappears, and the reticle shouldn't be static on the screen, maybe it moves with your gun, so if you melee attack it moves up the screen, etc.
I also found the HUD of Halo 2 a bit crowded, it was too noticeable and detracted from the beauty of what you saw on screen, more so that from Halo 1 for some reason.
Yeah, maybe it flickers when you take severe damage? That would be cool
Also, I'm not sure about no motion tracker at all, (this might work, I'm just uncertain) I think it's a definite must for Flood levels, to make it even more creepy. Surround sound would rock then!

I also liked the idea of having no HUD ammo counter nwhen its already on your gun, same for temperature of the plasma weapons, its cooler if you just have to judge it on what your gun is telling you. I think so, anyway!

EDIT
And yes, GO HUMAN TANK!

Ofcourse there should be a HUD in a FPS game. But, there could be a option to switch it off, or parts of it. A fading hud could always be pretty neat. Actually there could be a way in the profile settings to change your HUD outfit, like color, fading, blending(half-invicible), HUD on-off, crosshair color and size and maybe an option to make your crosshair have the same look with every weapon, different HUD themes would be cool too...

Just make the HUD customizable! It's simple!
Better for everyone...

leave it on

but having the option to turn it on or off is not a bad thing.... may make gamplay alittle more fun, but

if you could only do 1 leave it.

Yeah, I'd like an option to turn it off so that I can make movies using Halo much easier. Along with the RvB guys hehe. It'd be a VERY simple thing to do. But don't just do Blind Skull thing again. That sucked cuz you couldn't use it in multiplayer. Just add an option ingame to turn off HUD. It's in almost every game now.

"Draw Crosshairs"
"Draw HUD"
"HUD Fade"

etc.

I disagree strongly. I think they should make a more detailed HUD! They should make kinda like Metroid Prime's HUD to add to the feeling that YOU ARE the MC. Taking out a HUD would make no sence when in the books he has a HUD.

Whaa? [sarcasm]Yeah, take out my HUD. I don't care how much ammo I have.[/sarcasm]

No, that's a silly idea. The Spartan helmet has a HUD on it, taking out the HUD would be like.. Taking out the HUD!

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

You need to have the HUD. Too much vital info would be lost without it. I think they should have the option of being able to turn it off though. It would really help when doing machinima.

i think that having the HUD is part of the gaming experience. the graphics are quite amazing. having said that, since it is not completely lifelike, having the HUD is good.
