Honestly, it really depends on not only WHAT you play, but HOW you play.
Easiest example. If your k/d is really high, but you play objective games and don't go for the objective, then that really doesn't show me how good you are at killing someone who is actively trying to kill you.
On the flip-side, if your k/d is lower than average, but you come out of each game with a lot of assists, it means you're still worthwhile in team play, and you know how to help out.
These are just two examples of why you shouldn't take anyone's k/d at face value. Do a little research on them and figure out WHY their k/d is what it is.
