Just an idea off of the top of my head... but curious as to what people think.

Imagine a user option to "opt out" of titles. And when you do, you don't see the titles of any members. Everyone (except the web team and ninja) shows up as "member". But by selecting this option, the displayed title for the member (to those who are opting in and seeing/displaying titles) is something to indicate that they "aren't playing the game". For example, the term "Member" but the text of the title is in gold to show that they don't want their title shown and they can't see (and don't care about) yours.
I love it, you shouldda made a thread about it Recon.

Recon's idea would cure the site. We ruined the fun of titles anyway, things need to change for the new members arriving to the forums.

Clearly the only option for everything is to make everything optional.

We should go 4chan. Everyone is anonymous. Whenever someone makes a suggestion, we can't see who made it. That way, we don't have immense amounts of ass-kissing like we're seeing in this thread.

We miss you Logan.
Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

This is the perfect idea, I personally wan't to turn the titles off. So they should add it under edit profile.

The Risk Is Worth The Reward.
Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

That is probably the best idea out there for titles. I'd be good with if that was put in place.

Titles are like Ranks in Halo Reach, they don't mean -blam!-.

NICE WORK BUNGIE

This happened. It's called Coup v1, except from that spawned the current anime filled tentacle -blam!- that exists now.

It's why we can't have nice things.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

You say others are making to big a deal of them. You are making a big deal of them yourself by making this thread.

Real question, why does it matter?

That sounds like a decent idea actually. However, I don't see why there's a need for that type of system.

Why are people making such a big deal over titles? Sounds like its a combination of jealousy and inpatients to me.

But at the same time, those who're jealous and impatient would say that sounds like a combination of elitism and pomposity.

Edit: I wouldn't say that. I'm just pointing out the fact that it's a vicious cycle of classism and name-calling.

No, the titles should stay. Titles show how long one has been apart of the community, how much contributions made, etc. Though you are right that some people take the titles too seriously and anything along those lines, titles make it easy to identify how others spend their time on B.net.

PS: I worded this horribly. Sorry. :/

Call it what you will, but when you break it down this title isn't work jack -blam!-. It's not meant for anything else than to show that I followed the rules long enough to get it. Mythics think they are elitist? That they get special privleges? That's utter crap, I'm absolutely no different than you are as far as this site is concerned. All people need to do is not be an asshat, follow the rules, and you'll be golden. I am not pompos, and I am certainly not an elitist; I just try to post correctly.

  • 01.01.2012 1:32 PM PDT

No, titles just show that users contribute often and follow the rules.

They don't say that users with a higher title are smarter or have a bigger ding dong than everyone else with a ''lesser'' title. :/

Stop it.

The basis of the title system is just to prove who's more trustworthy on this site.
I think.

I hate on the title I have because it's ironic and therefore cool.

I play for fun and armory completion. :)

The title system is better than most sites. Why? Because then there would be elitism either through join date or post count. At least titles stop people from breaking the rules.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Why are people asking to delete titles? They don't affect anything. The titles are meant for fun.

There is no difference between a regular member and a Mythic member other than age. The Mythics don't have special privileges that members below them assume they have.

The only ones with special privileges on the website are the Forum Ninjas and the Employees.

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

Because people take them too seriously, ruining the point of them. Yes they were meant to be fun, but that is not the case anymore... at least for some of the members.

lolyouguys

Yeah, they're used to show how long you've been here, how well you behave, blah blah blah, what-have-you, and they do a good job of it, too. The problem lies where people start using them as yardsticks to measure their e-peens and they're used as a trustbar, which is idiotic.

What you did there, I see it. People would still do that.^
