They give one incentive to get involved in the discussion and are fun to look out for (hoping for the day you advance). They are just for fun as mentioned before. There is no problem with them in my eyes, they actually make Bnet greater for having them. They are cool :)

Just an idea off of the top of my head... but curious as to what people think.

Imagine a user option to "opt out" of titles. And when you do, you don't see the titles of any members. Everyone (except the web team and ninja) shows up as "member". But by selecting this option, the displayed title for the member (to those who are opting in and seeing/displaying titles) is something to indicate that they "aren't playing the game". For example, the term "Member" but the text of the title is in gold to show that they don't want their title shown and they can't see (and don't care about) yours.
I predict war between the title-people and the non-title-people.

There wouldn't be a war. If a user doesn't like the titles, they can just opt out. Why would there be a war. There isn't that many of us who don't like the titles.

I don't understand people who don't like titles. They're fun ways to track your progress. Anyone who uses it as a gauge of intelligence has none themselves.

If someone is harassing you because of your title or harassing you because their title is higher than yours just ignore them. Chances are you're probably better person than them anyway.

What does that say about their intelligence then? If a Mythic were to start ranting pompous statements about his superiority it probably wouldn't bother me. Or if a regular member were to start worshiping me it wouldn't affect me at all either. The only thing that would change is my opinion of these people.

Hello, I'm Mr AwesomePizza. I like pizza and I'm a man. Reasoning for the name. I like to listen to the classics of music, write poetry, play video games, and much much more. I'm always down for a nice chat, so please hit me up for some conversation.

I like the titles.
It's a system, therefor it will have failures. Every system has failures, it's guaranteed. The least we can do is accept that it is not perfect, and the problems with it are insignificant. If everyone will read the FAQ on member titles, and know that it is just based on time and effort put into the site. If we all form our own opinions, not just others, we will do good.

I know it doesn't have to do with intelligence, but some users think it does. That causes problems (small) in the community.
The other reason I wan't to get rid of the titles, is because I just don't like them.

I don't associate with those people so it doesn't bother me.

Also, what do you mean you just don't like them? That's not a very good reason...

Almost every forum on the Internet has a ranking system. Someone will always take them way too seriously, but most people enjoy them, and that's what they're meant for, enjoyment.

Well for me i'm not really into the titles anymore. I don't like the different colors, and the legendary and all that. It's just my opinion, but they don't interest me. Maybe, we shouldn't get rid of them since so many users like them, but I don't.

Well..mythic members are "veterans" in a form of way...

  • 01.02.2012 2:51 PM PDT

I like video games, Jesus, music, and love my girlfriend. :) PM me, we'll talk.

People get titles for a reason. If someone is a mythic member, it's generally because they've been here for some time; Implying they know more since they have more experience.

Also: Question marks, commas, spell-check, colons and semi-colons are good for teh communicationz.

I've seen a 2008 Mythic they doubt they veteran. All though It just depends on what you consider a veteran.

*Sigh* ignoring your grammar, 2008 was 4 years ago. That's easily long enough to become a mythic, with good behavior. Take a gander at Duardos thread to the right.

What..I don't ever recall titles carrying some "prestige". If anything, they have always represented one thing: The amount of time you've been here without getting into trouble (ex: I was Mythic a year ago, got banned [I was a falsely accused by a mod for trying to phish credit card info...lol] and got reset back to a normal member).

Though, a nice thing about having a higher title is that you are less like likely to be accused of "trolling" for merely offering constructive criticism.

Well excuse me, I didn't know grammar was a big deal. I was talking about how they were Mythic last year. I was saying that you said mythic are veterans. The 08 Mythic was a Mythic last year. Is he a Veteran?

It's not too big a deal. I just like it when someones posts are worth using proper grammar. I'll lay off.

Still, 3 years is definitely long enough.

No, it's only the tools that society uses to communicate with each other, of course it's not a big deal. >.>

Anyway, I would imagine after being here for 4 years you have some general knowledge of the site and it's workings which would point to you being more experienced than the average user.

I was joking, i'll attempt to use proper Gram Cracker. I'm getting a little off topic right now. The thing I was saying was I think users on this site take the titles a little to seriously. Not me, but I think that getting rid of the titles would get rid of the problem (small). The down side is if we did get rid of the titles, then the users who did like them would be very irritated. This is where I would like recons idea inserted into the site options for us.

Old School

This is a forum for bungie and bungie games, anybody with a slice of maturity would pay attention to the content of a thread rather than whos writing it.
The member titles just help those looking for answers quickly in a forum, as its more likely you'll get a more concise response from a user who has been around longer.
