I've seen users on the site who think that the higher the title the more they know.
Experience comes through time?

Yes, some users who are more experienced don't even have a title.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Point being?

If you ignore posts made by <Mythic, that's your problem, not mine.

The only thing I use titles for are for jokes, particularly about/towards moderators and admins. Pretty much if a member says "QBix is a super cool dood" I look at it as brownnosing, while if, say, American Recoil, if I may use your name, says "Foman once ate a whole plate of bacon topped cereal, and had intestinal seizures for days" I get more of a sarcastic tone, because those two have actually been around. (in more ways than one, but that's another story). It's just my way of sorting out who is in my jeesh.

Why shouldn't we have titles? I really haven't been given a good explanation as to why not. "Those people think higher of themselves!"

Damn right, I do. I've been here >6 years, and have managed to keep my permanent record fairly clean. I got a fancy blue bar and a title, even though most forums do more. The fact that I'm not getting all uppity about that is something you should be thankful for.

Who aid anything about ignoring the mythics? The titles are just annoying in my opinion. It doesn't show anything at all.

I said <Mythic, not Mythic. It was a comment on your comment: I've seen users on the site who think that the higher the title the more they know.

It's definitely not absolute, but not altogether untrue.

Is my father smarter than I? Well, I can do calculus like no body's business, and know how to weld and do a bunch of crazy stuff. If he says my texting is slowing down the internet, I'm not going to believe him.

But at the same time, he's older and knows how to do a lot of things that are much more useful in life, so when he says "Change your oil, else you're going to be paying for it ten-fold later," you damn well better believe I'm going to be elbows deep under that chassis, if you catch my drift.

In the end, you can disagree, because that's just my opinion on titles, just like yours is yours, and I disagree with it (and it seems like I'm not the only one, either).

There actually are alot that disagree with me. Everyone has there own opinions. Most of the post in this thread slightly changed my opinion, all though I still wan't the titles gone. I also don't think the opt out button will cause to much trouble within the site.

Generally, I think it's an ok idea. Though the concept of having "gold lettering" or something to indicate that one "isn't playing the game" is a bad idea. It'd just be a new way for people to draw attention and find a new way to play the same game.

If you don't want to play the game, fine. Don't play. It doesn't affect me/us. But don't sit in the corner whilst shouting "Hey guys, I'm not playing the game. See. I don't need your game so I'm not going to play. Look, I'm not playing!" That is the equivalent that I see any sort of indication of "game playing status" devolving into.

I'm not really sure what you are saying. Do you mean members don't need to shout out how they opted out of the titles?

Just an idea off of the top of my head... but curious as to what people think.

Imagine a user option to "opt out" of titles. And when you do, you don't see the titles of any members. Everyone (except the web team and ninja) shows up as "member". But by selecting this option, the displayed title for the member (to those who are opting in and seeing/displaying titles) is something to indicate that they "aren't playing the game". For example, the term "Member" but the text of the title is in gold to show that they don't want their title shown and they can't see (and don't care about) yours.
I think that would work out ok.

I'm pulling from RN54's post, where he stated the idea of an "opt out" button.

Yes, this was an example, and may have been argued already, but I didn't see it.

Having an indicator showing that a player is "opting out" is a terrible idea. The indicator would be what many members (all members) would want, in my opinion through my own experiences, and it'd defeat the purpose of the "opt out" option.

I see an indicator as being only a new way for people to attract attention. Except, this time, it isn't earned through time and good behavior, like titles/title bar colors are now.

My previous post was emotional, and a bit hackneyed, sorry. I was merely trying to convey how I believe such an indication of "not playing the game" would come off. Why would someone need people to realize that s/he doesn't care about titles? It's almost like giving a special title that now can't be ignored.

Exactly. There probably shouldn't be an opt out button. Knowing the users on this site. A user would create a thread simply saying, who opts out, and who opts in? Users on this site would post opt out, and the reason. Following that, users would post opt in, and there reason telling the opting out users who dumb they are. That would start a major immature argument. I think it would work if users had learned to accept other opinions.

Eh, I'm kind of torn here.

Yes, I think you are right, and that it would happen, but at the same time, it's going to happen with something regardless.

Such as, should we have member titles.

Really, the problem is that there just isn't enough information to keep us all happy. We're buzzards picking meat off of bones, except it's not meat...and those aren't bones...

It's a slow period for all things Bungie. When the new IP is announced, there will be plenty to talk about, and every one will put their attention somewhere else.

Meanwhile, the community should just find something else to argue about. Push for private group reform, incorporate community activites (like the ride along), maybe ask for more involvement between the Studio and the community.

We used to have games of Halo between members as well as moderators vs members. the Webcam games years ago were fantastic. Where did those things go? And don't tell me Bungie is "too busy."

Agreed, users here will find anything to argue over such as titles, bungie games, flood etc. Saying that bungie is to busy is very annoying to here. Why can't w have another webcam games? I saw the thread, and it was awesome. How is bungie to busy for that? We should have more forum contest to keep us busy since bungie isn't telling us anything. Yes, we have ride along, but that's is basically all we have.
