This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I don't have anything all that solid. Just scattered thoughts. I had a certain idea about ODSTs trying to survive a Flood infested city (sorta like the Mona Lisa). But, that seems a bit unoriginal. I've also had ODSTs involved with the Master Chief brother story. Having ODSTs find something that links to the manufacturing of a Covenant super Scarab (like seen in Halo Wars). Plus, a New Mombasa tale about a particular ODST who goes AWOL. Again, nothing really solid. Just scattered ideas that are a bit different and may be interesting.

It seems clear that you want it to be about ODST's.

I'd love for there to be stories about the ODST's throughout the Insurrection and later the whole Covenant War. I know Dirt pretty much covers this, but I want a novel about it, not a short story and for it to be much more fleshed out. Tobias S. Buckell did an amazing job with Dirt and would be an ideal candidate for this.

-Dead Orbit..

i would write about a squad of ODST's that barely escaped the fall of reach. they then discover a forerunner planet similar to onyx. at first the planet was under their control. Until the covenant caught up. now a battle for forerunner resources and artifacts has begun. in addition a guardian of the planet has awakened and it only gets worse...

This! This entry actually got a Pick of the Week on HBO (the site not the channel), so I'm pretty proud about that. It's a work in progress. Unfortunately that progress is temporarily halted due to former computer issues. When I can get back on track, the story will jump forward to a team of ODSTs, led by the main character introduced in my prologue, crash landing their Pelican in New Mombasa (a Pelican we've seen in H2, hint hint). They will head to Delta Halo along with the Chief, but they're story will not be alongside the Chief.

Well, he did ask me to share my ODST ideas. lol.

I'd love to see an ODST novel written by Buckell. Preferably during the Covenant War, but I wouldn't mind reading about them during the Insurrection either. I just find the Covenant War more interesting.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I would explain the canon mistakes in Halo: Reach so everybody would stop ragging on it.

I enjoyed the story about the S-III Headhunters, so possibly that or a story centering on a squad of ODST's. I really like the ODST's since their like the paratroopers of the future.

That's... very interesting actually. I would read that.

Here are some ideas, How about enemies of the forerunnurs who took over a Dyson Sphere (who killed the inhabitants) awaking from suspended animation, used forerunner technology to create starships, and used flash clones of humans and covenant species to reclaim the galaxy? The flash clones could be used as tactical insertions into each ruling domain to cause maximum damage and confusion and to get the Covenant and Humans to fight again then attack.

Or

Seeing how large our galaxy is.... How about an alien empire that dwarfs the Covenant Empire and the UNSC? The UNSC cannot field that much personnel so they use forerunner technology to improve on genetically enhanced flash clones (creating clones that also live longer) and imprint each clone with information (according to need) such as: Mechanic, Starship Engineers, Soldiers, Medical Doctors, Scientists ect...

The following breakthrough would have secondary consequences, people of the colonies would revolt as thoughts of humanity would be replaced with flash clones with instant knowledge of careers that would take years and years for a regular person to master. The relationship with the Sangheili would become complicated but would have no choice to fight with us to prevent them from being conquered by the new threat. The other species of the Covenant would aid the new threat and be absorbed by them making the new threat much harder to beat.

I would also include more ship to ship space battles, using point defense weapons, warfare linkage between ships to coordinate PDW's and MAC/Plasma/Missile barrages, along with using fighter craft to attack in the enemy fleet. I would also include heavy ground warefare using believable ground tactics. I dunno... Think "Band of Brothers" and "Midway (1977)" but in outer space.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

I'd make a book with Wolverfrog's stories, edit his first one to make it an easier read, and then give all the credit to him.

Signatures are for squares.

I'd write a story involving an ODST team, and their operations during the 2530's/2540's, since we don't have many details from those times. The novel would also go in depth with the Assembly.

Or.

A novel detailing Noble Team, give them some depth so Halo Reach doesn't seem as abysmal.

I'm writing it!?

OH GOD I DIDN'T STUDY!

Hmm, Jokes aside, I'd want to see a more civilian side to the Halo universe, So a military presence would be seen as something to despise, something to be in awe of, something to praise.

Instead of being the one there fighting, Because it is a novel, It could be possible to write about all kinds of varied civilian life.

That's not to say it'd be uneventful, There's evacuations, Invasions, glassings going on, and more often than not, Civilians are caught up in these things.

For example, Sadie in the ODST Logs, or the group of Civies being evacuated from New Alexandria in Reach.

Perhaps during a covenant attack, a civie is stranded, whilst s/he has loved ones on Earth/other human colony, and s/he must escape the covenant-invaded planet, with no means of combat to his/her name.

I think i'd want to do something on Noble-6's time before noble team. According to Reach he seems to have a very...colorful past, what with test piloting experimental air craft and "making entire rebel factions disapier over night."

I'd probably start with with his time in BETA company, show him interating with Tom and Lucy along with the rest of team foxtrot. From there I'd go into him being held back from Operation TORPEDO and probably have him interacting with Ackerson a bit. After that i'd probably go into him going up against various insurectionists, maybe even have him interact a bit with civilians from the outer colonies and have him learn some sort of leason that not everyone in the outer colonies want war...or something.

Somewhere in the middle of that I'd have the whole SABRE program and his part it such as why he was chosen for it and such. To end it, I'd probably have him in some big mission (what it would be i have no idea...probably something to do with revenge from the fore-mentioned insurectionist leaders or something)that would earn him his place on Noble Team.

Mine would be about Jun and how he is secretly Master Chief and some how traveled through time to save Dr. Halsey, upgrade his armor, and make it onto the Pillar of Autumn in time to be seen in the cut scene.
