I don't think so, a lot of people were dissapointed by Halo 2, that may impact their decision to anticipate Halo 3. Although who knows? we still have a year to go, Bungie has a lot more money to spend on advertising then they did with H2.
Some people were disappointed by Halo 2. However, Halo 2 brought in a whole new audience who hadn't played the original (and probably still haven't). That audience, along with the even newer audience that Halo 3 will inevitably bring in (along with the people who played both and liked them, and those who'll buy it anyway), will almost certainly be the largest ever to be after a videogame. The only real downside is that the Xbox 360 will be a relatively new console at the time, whereas the original Xbox already had a few years and a large userbase at H2's release.
