"Don't worry, I know what the aliens like'.

Bungie's next project: Sardonicism: Irony Evolved

On a scale of 1 to livid, where will the Arbiter fall when he gets back to Sanghelios and discovers that most of the planet has been battered by the NOVA bomb?

I'm beginning to think that The Flood is a metaphor for the all consuming, self-loathing horror that the forums have become.

Sorry if this has already been suggested, or if I have my facts mixed up, I don't have my Halo novels on hand at the moment, so feel free to correct me (as I know you will), but I seem to recall that while on Reach in the last of the three books, Fred and his team were creeping around under ONI's Castle Base in those (probably Forerunner) ruins. While he was down there, Dr. Halsey (sp?) replaced his gloves to increase his motion trackers range, or something along those lines. Many people have noted that the gloves on the Spartan shown are different, and I was wondering if anyone thinks it possible that it is Fred in the trailer, and that the MC still remains in space. Any ideas?

Edit: I also remember that the book said that one of the Spartan's had heavily dented armour, but I think that might have been Kelly.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

No, they still use the Mark V armor, and not the Mark VI, so he would look different.

It's just better graphics and more details that are making him look slightly different..

Nope, it's the master chief, as written here and here. It has also been comfirmed by various Bungie employees that it is indeed the chief.

ofcourse bungie would say that. duh. That doesn't mean its true! If it is Fred or something, then they could've been upgraded earlier in the game, and also, they look kinds confused about what's going on, so maybe they've been out for a while and they're wondering what happened to earth etc. Remember, anything's possible with Bungie.

These are getting annoying. The Spartan in the picture is the Master Chief. Why would Bungie make it anyone else? They've stuck with the Master Chief throughout the first two games and all the other Spartans are never mentioned.

That would be Sam, not Fred.

"Master Chief" is a military rank. Maybe they are reffering to this character as Master Chief, so people immediatly think of the classic Halo character... but perhaps they are simply tricking us by meaning it is a different Spartan who holds the rank of Master Chief.

Master chief Petty Officer to be precise. But I highly doubt that they would do such a thing. In fact, i'm confident that they wouldn't do such a thing. Would be a little weird wouldn't it?

The last you heard, the other Spartans were outfitted with the MJOLNIR Mark V armor, but you, like everybody else, seem to forget that when the Halo Novel Trilogy ended, the Covenant had just found Earth, and had not yet invaded. So therefore, you know that the Halo 2 game takes place after the novels, because do you not fight through Covenant forces in New Mombassa, which is a city on Earth? Get your timelines straight people.

Thats why hes called Master Chief, thats his rank. I dont think any other Spartan got to that rank did they?

In the release notes for the teaser, the specifically say who is in the movie. Get... over... it. It's Master Chief, and nobody else. How many new threads need to be made to get this point across? It's like they should make it a sticky or something!

That's true, however, the events that took place in the three halo novels directly tied Halo 1 and 2 together, and were used to explain certain character returns (such as Johnson's apparent immortality). So it would not be unreasonable to assume that events that happened in this trailer are based on events from ALL of the previous story material; Games and Books.

  • 05.11.2006 12:27 PM PDT

but then again its still books and games.

the books can be used to explain things that havent been mentioned in the games, so it doesnt seem likely they will incorporate anything from the books unless bungie had original plans for the ideas that were then used in the books
