Oh, and before anybody tells me I have no opinion because I've only been here for three days (or something like that), I've actually been here for a lot longer; I just make new accounts every once and a while. I've actually been here fore two and a half years.

But anyways, back to the point of the thread: I think the rules need to be reevaluated. You may ask why, but I say because it kills too much discussion.

Take for example political discussions: they provide an excellent source of contemporary issues, along with providing something to talk about. The same goes for religion.

I understand that political/religious discussions do sometimes cause problems, however, I believe that it's solely due to immaturity. If you ban the people who are making immature/hateful threads and posts, you ultimately can allow political and religious discussions.

Mass Effect, Fallout, Skyrim.... nice!

Uhm, I understand where you are coming from but there are a lot of immature/insensitive people on this forum and there is a reason for those topics to be disallowed. I promise you Recon would be able to say this much more intellectually and lengthy than I. I did my best.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Its a video game site. You want to talk politics then join a political site. And while I encourage teenagers to talk about current issues, im not about to debate it with minors who cant even vote.

Bungie - Gaming corporation
Bungie.net - Site for gaming corporation, discussion about Bungie and/or their games

Political/religious discussion doesn't exactly take precedence here, and Bungie.net's administration would just rather play it safe and steer clear of some of the problems amongst users that can come from those discussions.

You can't ban more than half the people in the forums.. It's easier just to say no political threads.

I do not think banning would solve such threads, as politics and religion are each inherently immature.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Oh, is it time for this discussion again? I've seen plenty of threads that could be considered political left open as long as they remained problem free. Religion I can't say the same for. However, if you want to discuss either safely than just do it in a private group. There's at least one these dedicated to discussing the forbidden topics of the forums.

The Black Chapter and our own Café, although the former is more dedicated to the subject and probably more active. Cafe = not for religious discussion.

What does this say about our politicians and trusted leaders?

Do you know about time travel?

Political and religious discussion always cause problems no matter the party. If we always the discussion of said topics then banning the "immature" posters would be a never ending process. The rules are fine how they are as they prevent conflict between different religious faiths and beliefs and government topics.

Also as a side note, we have private groups to allow discussion of these topics.

In one of my private groups, they kept making religion threads for like a week straight. Needless to say, I learned a lot of new stuff, but people are extremely rude when it comes to religion. They always make generalizations about the other side and at the end of it all, nobody really changes their mind on anything. It truly is fruitless.

Very rarely can you have a "safe" place to discuss politics and religions. This is definitely not one.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

No one should care how long you've been here. I don't even believe you, but I don't care.

Political and religious discussions are banned because they always end in flaming and trolling as long as the topic lasts long enough (usually, not very long). It's not a "sometimes" thing.

Have you ever seen the religious and political topics that are started against the rules? Or what about the many topics that transform into an off-topic religious or political flame war?

What? Got something against Yetis?

Flamewars are always imminent whenever politics are mentioned. I'm glad that rule exists.

As provided by Duardo, Achronos has stated that that rule will not be altered. With the ability to create and participate in private groups, you're still able to discuss politics/religion on the site, just not on the main forums.

  • 01.01.2012 11:06 PM PDT

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

A good amount of people on this site can't handle discussion of a video game maturely. The flaming would get out of control. The amount of people that would get banned if such controversial topics were allowed would be ridiculous. There are several other websites that are made for such discussions, and there are groups that have been made to discuss both topics.

This rule will NEVER change. Ever. People who think that religion or politics are okay on the public forums are wrong, and either naive or forget what they'll feel compelled to post when somebody posts something that is fudamentally opposed to your ideology.

This is a video game developer's forum. Go elsewhere to talk religion or politics.

Cafe = not for religious discussion.

Then why are you advertising it in this thread?

  • 01.02.2012 5:46 AM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I like the rules now, lot less bans this way.
