A lot of the community can't hold a proper debate in the first place.

Saves time and effort.

This rule will NEVER change. Ever. People who think that religion or politics are okay on the public forums are wrong, and either naive or forget what they'll feel compelled to post when somebody posts something that is fundamentally opposed to your ideology.

This is a video game developer's forum. Go elsewhere to talk religion or politics.

... Then you have no concept of how people can actually, and will actually behave. Not only that, but the consistent mess it will cause as well. The vast majority of people here are seemingly incapable of even having a civil discussion regarding Forum Community based rules and what not. You expect them to play nice when it comes to politics/religion?

Give your head a shake.

The rules don't need to be changed at all. They are fine now. They make sense, are easy to follow, and everyone understands them.

Fairly sure that was Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus.

It wasn't that long ago since the rules were changed to be more lenient. It's not really a hard thing to just be civil and talk like mature people. If anything I would say that they help discussion because one or two things were eased up on when they were last updated.

  • 01.02.2012 10:37 AM PDT

If this is the state of my art, then I secede.

The rules were just relaxed not that long ago.. TBH, there might need to be some clarity added instead of having the majority of the enforced rules "at moderator discretion".

This is a video game site. We don't need political/religious discussion on here. The rules were redone a while ago, as I remember there were more when yoozel had them posted.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I don't think political and religious discussion belong in a game devs website, it just won't work. While some discussions can be tame, many are not.

Theme Builder 4.1 is out for Bungie.net!

Theme Builders

Why is this thread even still open? The rules were already changed not too long ago, and the author's main request has been denied. This topic is kind of pointless...

This. Every political/religious thread that gets by almost always deteriorates into name calling within the first few posts.

Plus, this is a game developers website and doesn't really belong here blah blah blah

Ahem...

This might have to be added to the FAQ anymore so we can all have a copy paste response to these types of threads.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Never gonna happen. No argument about how good the discussion can get will change that. They're not there because these forums are just not the place for it.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

To be honest, I've never seen a political flamewar on the Flood. Only insightful, informative political threads that get locked for no reason. It was on the Flood that I learned of things like SOPA.

I'd say political threads should be allowed, but religious threads... well they're another story...

The problem with that is that you'll run into the same issues we had with the old rules. They were very cumbersome and everything was seemingly spelled out. A lot of people would complain if the reason they were banned wasn't specifically listed in the rules as something that is prohibited. Rather than just add every little thing as it came, it was easier to put a bit of faith in everyone to use decent common sense (at least that's my opinion on the matter). Really, if someone gets banned for something, they were either warned for it before or it was something that's obviously against the rules. A ton of people get a bit of grace (by way of warning) when breaking the "grey area rules."

Then you aren't paying attention.

The rules are fine. If anything they need to be enforced more thoroughly, in my opinion. OR regular members need to use the report button more often.

If anything needs to change, I would say the blam filter. There's a few words that have double meanings that are blammed, and words like dick, dildo, twat and whore only have one meaning. You know what I mean?

  • 01.03.2012 12:29 AM PDT

I think some should be reconsidered.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

I initially thought that this was going to be about the ambiguity of the rules as a whole, but once the word "politics" and "religion" came about, I knew where this was heading.

Sure, these discussion can be interesting. I mean, interesting is a subjective view. But if you were to leave one of these types of threads open in a forum such as the Flood, then past experiences of interesting discussion can get thrown out the window.

People can (and most of the time do) go too far - in terms accusations and flaming - in order to place their opinion on top of everyone else's. A thread which may start out with good intentions and a willing to invoke good discussion, almost always turns into a burning piece of rubble, with many squabblers inside.

There are still alternatives, however, if one want's to discuss these subjects on a site such as this. Creating groups acts as a way of creating your own experience and having discussions not normally permissible on the public forums.

Whoo.

I don't think allowing threads with the titles "Your god is stupid" will really come out as well as you think it will.
