Howdy All,

Well... I’ve posted a bit here and there, but wanted to voice my opinions on what I think about the third Halo... These are just my opinions, so of course they could all be wrong, and probably are...

On Cortana’s apparent negative tone in the trailer. Well our dear Cortana has endured a lot throughout the Halo run. Trying to keep the PoA alive in the battle of Reach, Being thrust into alien computer systems, watching as countless people died, and working frantically against rouge AI’s. The list goes on and on.

She is a very advanced AI to begin with. This in itself could lead to unforseen problems cropping up due to extreme circumstances. It hasn’t been brought to full light whether or not she in fact “is” rouge, rampant or otherwise compromised. This could be a ploy to undermine Gravemind, the Covenant or some yet unknown party involved. She may simply be “playing” along , but not actually corrupted, we just don’t know at this time. I’d like to lean towards her being an unwilling participant at the moment, yet with Bungie stating this would be a darker Halo it may well be that she is indeed lost...

Working on the assumption she is just “playing “ along with some plot of Gravemind, etc, she may simply be mouthing what it wishes, but still working in concert with the Chief. This is a theory I want to be true, yet fear is not so... Her words in this case could be interpreted to mean the Chief is the shield, the sword, and has defied gods, and demons himself.

Working on the assumption she is “rampant” we take her dark words to heart. If this is an overlay or an actual transmission to the Chief it’s sinister undertones cannot be dismissed out of hand. If that is the case, is this a scheme of Gravemind? Does he actually think using Cortana to relay a veiled threat like this would give the Chief pause? I hope he’s not that dim-witted. John has a determination tempered by countless battles, and witnessing the death of just about everyone he ever called friend. No... If he has committed himself to a course of action he deems necessary, woe to anyone who may rise up to stop him.

I think even a “corrupted” Cortana would know this. If this scene is an actual “game” scene it’s more likely that she is just doing as told. She would know that John would never respond to a threat like this. I think you can even hear it in her voice. She starts the voice over along with Gravemind in a commanding tone, but when she pauses and then says, “ I know you... I know your past, your future... “ It’s just her voice alone, and it is tinged with realization, warmth, and even a hint of sadness. If she is indeed under another influence it’s at this moment she actually recognizes with whom she is speaking too. She has know John personally, and took extreme measures to find out everything about his past. No matter how far gone she was, she would know that steering him from his true course would be impossible.

John, Spartan 117, the Master Chief is like a force of nature. Once set into motion only he can stop himself. All who have ever come into direct conflict with him have come to realize this as a fact. If this is indeed a darker more sinister final installment I think we will see him make the ultimate sacrifice, but for the best of reasons. I think that even the Covenant have come to see John as the unstoppable force akin to some demon spawned from the depths of some unknown hell.

It may be that seeing John, the seemingly indestructible Spartan, laid low in the ultimate sacrifice may be what finally grinds the Covenant juggernaut to a halt. We know that there already exists a growing sect of Elites, Hunters, and grunts who have taken a stand against the ruling caste within the Covenant. They have been shown to be an honorable group that can in fact think for themselves, and have reached a line they will not cross. At the end of all conflicts seeing John standing defiant against an unbeatable foe may galvanize them to also rise up to defend humanity.

I can envision a Covenant divided collectively hold it’s breath as John is gravely wounded. I can also see a deeply noble group of Elites, Hunters, and grunts sweeping in to surround him. Daring anyone who would further harm him. John may live, or die, but his efforts could forge a new alliance that gives humanity a chance they would not have had before. If he died I could see those same Covenant swear to bring their former kin to justice. So from the depths of our greatest despair comes a ray of hope.

Everyone would realize humanity was in fact the Forerunner’s reborn, yet different. This time Humanity and Covenant come together as equals and cement a friendship that was born from the brink of total destruction. They would pledge together to never let such a thing happen again. If John did die, the last scene in the last game could be of an elite placing a flower on his grave, and then salute. What could be a better testament to John than have a former enemy show him the greatest respect... John not only saved the entire human race, but the Covenant as well...

To make a short story long, I think this teaser shows us a new John. One that has matured, grown and now better understands the conflict that forged him into the weapon he now is... Killing is easy, not killing is sometimes much harder... I think that “if” John is now working along side the “free” Covenant it demonstrates even the most ardent warrior can forgive past mistakes if it leads towards a common peace. <steps off soap box>

Now... After that. The graphics look awesome, the plot looks intriguing and I’ve just down right missed seeing the Master Chief wade through the baddies..! We will suffer the details for now, but can’t wait to find out the fate of our beloved characters... The new engine is breath taking. When the pressure wave from the devices’ activation slams into the first Covenant cruiser it’s awesome. The ship lists hard then recovers and fires it main engines to gain some distance. Damn fine work..! The Chief’s armor looks great with the realistic damage. Wear and tear has to be hell on anything he puts on. Showing him with the gun he originally started with was a fine touch to bring things full circle. And, if Cortana is in fact lost to us, so be it... John started Halo alone, it would seem fitting he finished it alone... Fate, karma, or destiny, which ever you prefer tends to want closure. This would seem to be our Spartan’s closure...

Don’t bow to any corporate hassling Bungie... Finish up your great story as you see fit... Remember “we” pay those corporate boys, so no worries... <wink>

Just Adding,

I was just working while listening to the audio of the teaser... I'm probably 100% wrong, but I'd swear I could hear something change in Cortana while she voices over the actions on Earth.

I think this "maybe" in-game snippit, is where Cortana has an an epiphany... I think we may be witnessing her start out as possible puppet, but end up herself once more for unknown reasons. I just get this feeling... Something seems to pull her back right before the end... It could be the fact she suddenly recognizes John, and what he is..? Maybe it's the realization of exactly what he may be about to do..? I think even though this may be a dark final chapter that our "old" Cortana is beginning to surface once more by the teasers end... John may be about to do something monumental and possibly life threating. I think something inside her "clicks" at this point...

I bet Bungie employees get a kick out of all these posts... I bet they sit there and say "wrong..! " LOL..!
