That'd be an interesting twist.

Very few races actually accepted it the first time. The Covenant forced races into their Empire. The Grunts either had to join the Covenant or be faced with extinction. I think there was also a war with the Jackals and the Covenant too so the Humans would have had a war but if they lost or surrendered then they would be absorbed into the Covenant.

Yeah, I guess I just find it hard to imagine devout Catholics accepting forced religion.

The Covenant enslaved the Jackals.

The Covenant hired the Jackals.

Fixed it for you.

The Kig-Yar didn't accept it either.

Actually, the humans probably would have been accepted instantly. They were exactly what the Covenant needed, a race that is both handy with technology, a millitary backbone, and able to interact with Forerunner tech. Had Truth, Mercy, and Regret simply said that the humans were the servant race of the Forerunners, and were simply meant to work like the Engineers, there would have been a lot more living beings in the galaxy.

Yeah, but unlike any of the Covenant races, humans had already achieved spaceflight by first contact. Do you really think humanity would allow themselves to be part of a caste society where they are not on top, or a completely new space religion? None of the Covenant races, except for the Elites, really had the means to resist Covenant takeover, but humans did, and they would. There would still be war.

The Hunters as well could resist the covenant as the rest of the Covenant could not destroy the Hunter homeworld due to it being a giant Forerunner creation

1. Te is not an artificial planet.
2. The Covies did resort to bombarding the planet.

There would have been war.
Humanity would have eventually lost and joint the covenant.
Elites would have great respect for humanity.
Humanity would rapidly improve Covenant technology.
In line with what human normally do, we would inspire rebellion for power.

True, but with the Covenants superior power, we would have ended up being accepted into it as mercenaries, just like the Jackals, but at an obvious higher social ranking than Grunts, Jackals, Hunters and Drones.

Funny. It reminds me of Mass Effect. Humanity all of a sudden entering the galactic collective and getting the amount of power and influence in a couple years that others races have been waiting for thousands of years.

Most likely this.

For some reason, I keep thinking this would be more akin to the Mass Effect series had this happened.

Actually, IIRC, they only threatened bombardment. They never did it as the threat caused the hunters to surrender.

As for the Jackals, they never accepted the religion, they are merchants and pirates by nature, basically they would've been hired into the covenant :P.

Oly Oly Oxen Free

The jackals agreed to join the covenant as a mutually beneficial pact, they are not firm believers in the journey and simply are mercenaries kept in check (most of the time...) by elites/brutes.

Kig-yar vessels with only grunts on board have a tendency to waver in their loyalty at any given opportunity, they are superbly opportunistic. Hence, that human-kig yar settlement in Cole Protocol.

  • 01.22.2012 12:48 PM PDT

The Elites were also able to build space ships before the covenant.

Yeah, but I doubt people would accept a religion where you know for a fact that if the religion obtains its goal, all life in the galaxy will die for nothing.

Actually, from what I remember they tried to bombard the planet but realized it was useless. That's what I think anyhow...

Almost all races could before meeting the Covenant. Just some of them had troubles before the meeting up of with the Covenant, such as grunts and brutes. With the grunts, it was massive over industrialization and collapse, and with brutes it was them blowing themselves back to the stone age twice.

As for the rest of the species, they all had some degree of spaceflight more than others.

  • 01.23.2012 10:21 AM PDT

I guess thats just the reason everyone else capitulated to the demands of the Covenant... they weren't as huge religious nutjobs to begin with. When you consider stuff like Christianity's crusades and the Islamic ji'had, I could still see why humans would end up in the same situation as they ended up in throughout the games' plotlines.
