Subject: [Approved] Sub Forum?

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I do realize that each board added here on B.net cost money. With that said...

Ideas from community members drive these forums, the Septagon in particular. I have seen many great idea threads sprout up all over the place, receive a great bit of replies including suggestions, disagrees, and and plenty of "I love this idea!" replies. Many of these ideas are simple ideas. many are completely necessary and not so much a luxury. Some are.

Another main point I want to make is the fact that a lot of these ideas repeat and resurface. I feel like a lot of these ideas are ignored. Achronos has made it clear that every idea is "acknowledged" but that seems like the farthest they ever go.

My idea would be a nice addition but certainly not required: an approved idea sub-forum.

I've seen other communities with a similar feature but there was one forum in particular that caught my attention. The site included a forum, much like the Septagon, where members could gather and make suggestions, bring up ideas, and discuss them. Additionally, the moderation team and web team could approve an idea thread and recommend it to be moved onto a higher "level" of discussion being an "Approved Idea" subforum.

In this subforum, a moderator or admin would repost the idea thread, credit the idea to the creator, and implement a poll:

-Great Idea!
-Good but unecessary
-Needs some work
-Useless

Now, the ideas added to the subforum weren't to approved as in immediate implication to the site, it simply offered a set-in-stone place to discuss a popular idea and to avoid multiple idea threads from repeatedly sprouting up. Many of the approved idea threads had thousands of replies and over the span of time the thread stood for discussion in the subforum, the ideas improved and changed over time.

I love this feature in the other community and would love to see something similar to be implemented here. Obviously, onyx moderators and admins would have the ability to post threads but everyone would have the ability to reply to threads. This could also lead to a possible "Idea Commitee" or something along those lines to select and approve ideas for more community involvement. It would also put an end to pesky repeated idea threads that seem to be ignored,

The real question is where this thread will be sent for approval.

It wouldn't really be sent anywhere, just agreed upon either by a group of moderators or admin, or simply by a single moderator or adminwho feels it deserves higher level of discussion.

This is what inspired my idea committee idea. Maybe a select group of members, not moderators, who have the ability to approve an idea for the subforum.

Can't we just have a thread that lists all approved ideas and links to the topics? That would make more sense...

Bye.

So an idea is posted on the main forum. Then someone eligible to post in the sub forum posts the same idea in the sub forum but with a poll? Is that roughly right? Or am i getting a very simplified version?

A possibility, but leaves ideas to be easily forgotten and repeatedly repostedt over and over.

Building on that idea, why not just have a pinned thread here with a poll for each idea? You normally can't do this but the webteam could let the master forum ninja's do it. That way the web team needs only to look at the thread to see what ideas have been suggested and don't have to go searching for them?

Don't think of it as simply reposting and idea. Ideas are always lost in the thousands of pages of threads here in the Septagon. And ideas aren't the only thing discussed here either. The subforum would be strictly ideas and would keep the ideas readily available for discussion without falling into and abyss of dead threads.

A specific fourm for ideas? I think submiting idea's to the community works fine.

Yeah, but I've never even seen a sub-forum in use on here. Makes me wonder if it's even possible with this ancient software.

Doesn't really seem needed though when a thread could accomplish the same. I'm sure some members would hastily cite a link to the thread when someone makes a duplicate post.

Like I said, it isn't completely required, simply a nice addition. But over time, "new" ideas are very rare. The only ideas I really ever see have been brought up several times over the years, giving me no reason to give my opinion in the thread. I would simply be restating what I said in the previous thread.

Also, approving an idea and moving to a place specifically for that one idea to be replaced would promote users put more thought into their suggestions to an idea.

If I knew an idea was more than just and idea and actually a possible implication to website, I would definitely put a little more though into how to improve or alter the idea.

If they never got rid of the Voting Booth then threads with particularly popular ideas could have been put there for people to vote on? It's sort of the same thing...

Where are you getting this information?

I was under the impression that Bungie hosted there own site. Which means they pay for keeping the servers up and running but not for individual pages.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Something such as this, definitely needs to be implemented.

I assume he means the possible activity increase, and the trouble the Web Team has to go through to implement. It doesn't physically cost money though.
