A) It's silly.

B) See A.

C) If the master chief can flip over a tank, drag a huge bomb across the floor, and generally kick serious ass with superhuman strength - are you telling me he can't hold his little gun steady? Even with both hands?

I think it would be great in other games, but not Halo, for the reasons you mentioned.

Some recoil is a must, it makes the shooting feel better.

man...ur really taking the whole master chief- strength thing too literally..i dont think Bungie ever really had in mind the weather he is strong enough to not recoil, or flip a tank, or weather it is his helmet that he uses to zoom in with the pistol....its really about the game play...

Dude, Penguinzier, calm down, this is why I rarely visit them forums, people like you go crazy over just a thought...

Anyways, he is right, if MC can do all that stuff then a little gun is nothing, plus Penguizier you would NOT be able to sniper across the map because recoil is not what makes your bullets go downward, its called gravity. So next time, before you flame someone grow a brain.

Hi,

You can't snipe with an SMG from across the map due to shot spread. I can understand how you could miss that, given your language I suspect you aren't very smart or possibly suffer a mild form of mental retardation.

I feel they should leave the recoil exactly the way it was like in the second game, just because it wouldnt feel like halo anymore and the game isnt supposed to be that realistic anyways.

I kinda agree with you just for the fact, that if it recoils for a spartan, then most likely a normal marine would explode... or something along those lines.

The AR in Halo (1) had no recoil.

I was playing the demo of Lost Planet and it just made the game feel cheesy. Perhaps they simply over-did it... but I don't like the feel.

First Post? :)
I think there should be a limited amount of recoil eg. with the SMGs.

My philosophy:

Recoil = skill to deal with
No recoil = no skill

Feel free to flame :)

Doing what I can, with what I got.

I couldn't agree more with the original post. The recoil is silly and pointless.

For me it sums up what was wrong with Halo 2. It was put in because someone thought it would be cool but applied no logic. Yes it might require more skill but in the middle of a gun battle that adds frustration rather than enjoyment. Games are supposed to be fun and as far as I was concerned Halo was never meant to be a 100% accurate soldier simulation.

Some of the crazy, bullet strewn battles in the last level of Halo on legendary I never thought 'oh the gaming experience would be so much more if I had to control the AR from riding'.

The flipping over the tanks is a valid point because Bungie are either saying we put the recoil in to remain realistic (which from what we've discussed clearly isn't) or just as a gimmick. Oh and the person who said you snipe from far off using the SMG makes a strange point as the bullets that came out of the gun seemed only effective for targets within a 3 ft diameter. Anything over and you might as well have spat.

Please Bungie take out the recoil or at best put it on a more secondary weapon.

No matter how strong you are, you cannot stop a gun from recoiling. He can't brace his muscles enough for every shot before the shot goes off, and even if he could, that would tire him out very fast.

It is, in fact, very realistic that the weapons recoil when fired by a Spartan.

"It is, in fact, very realistic that the weapons recoil when fired by a Spartan."

So he has the strength to flip over a tank, drag a heavy spiked metal bomb across the ground and in the book bail out of a crashing plane without a parachute but can't brace his arms to fire a gun.

If his joints are servo assisted then wouldn't this counter the shock of recoil?

A Guide to Networking, Matchmaking, and Host in Halo (HBO mirror)

Bungie Friends and Family invitee, and sender of "random emails" about networking.

Recoil is inversely proportional to weight. Small bullets (probably about 0.025kg) going at the mach 2 means that your 500kg armoured spartan is going to recoil backwards at a leisurely 3.30 cm/s, with no friction. That's not much recoil to affect aim so seriously. And that's a generous assumption, with the small calibre of bullets used by the smg.

Let's now consider the M4 carbine, and a modern soldier today.

The M4's bullets weigh 0.016kg, and it has a muzzle velocity of 905m/s

Assuming a modern soldier in gear weighs 120kg, he will recoil backwards at a rate of 12cm/s, about 3-4 times that of a spartan. And yet you don't see soldiers weapons shooting into the sky on full auto.

Make it so continued firing affects the spread of bullets, but don't do that stupid crap where the reticle flies upwards.

Yes. That is EXTREMELY realistc. If you look at the poster above me you will see why.

BAD idea. That would make the game seem very unrealistic (by Halo standards) and stupid.

Its there to make the game more interesting.

Sure, you bring a valid point, but it would be counter strike 1.6 all over again.

but the guy above didn't validate your point, he said that there might be recoil but it would hardly affect MC
