I think it would work well to allow distinct weather patterns that affect the gameplay of every map and would be adjustable (in multiplayer) in intensity.
Rain - Skidding Warthogs that can get stuck in the mud, rain glimmers off of the Spartans or Elites and goes into puddles on the ground, hits your visor and dribbles to the ground.
Snow - Harder to move in white out conditions, pelts the visor and reduces visibility.
Fog - Reduces visibility.
Thunderstorm - Lightning flashes can reveal people in hiding, rain effects, hail can cause your shields to deplete by a sliver, reduced visibility.
Wind - In a heavy gale, it is harder to move in the direction of the wind, but is faster for the player to move with it.
Time of Day - This could be an excellent new feature that could add a whole new layer to the game, but would require the return of night vision. The best bet for every map (including single player) would be to make the time of day become dynamic. In multiplayer, it could be adjusted to a general period of time (morning, sunset) or to the hour. If weather is combined with this, it could easily replicate a natural, realistic world by allowing clouds to come in and blot out sun or moonlight and so on.
Is this plausible for Halo 3 to have? I want to hear your thoughts.
