Swag punks, fuck off!

343? I would enjoy a Marathon remake.

  • 01.02.2012 7:25 PM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Some things are best not remade, I think re-making Marathon wouldn't look right.

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

Or maybe an FPS with a completely different story, with the same puzzle map style playthrough that Marathon has...

  • 01.02.2012 7:27 PM PDT

Maybe. I think I'd like the games but, forgive me, I can't put up with such low-quality gameplay.

I am not sure how to respond with this. But yeah, Marathon has low rez graphics and it can be confusing to play. I can understand why it can be annoying when you first play it. But it is a piece of video game history and I find it is interesting to see how gaming was in a time before I was into gaming.

This ought to be in the Underground.

343 can't do a Marathon remake. Bungie still owns the rights to Marathon (don't expect to see any Marathon logos in upcoming Halo titles).

...something definitely reminiscent to the original games.
It doesn't get much more reminiscent than this.

Theme Builder 4.1 is out for Bungie.net!

Theme Builders

I would buy it if they did, but I feel like it would end up being too similar to Halo.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

Nothing I say will stop people from wanting more marathon. Who can blame them? When Marathon was created, I would dare say that it was one of the best written and designed games around. However, much of the brilliance of Marathon was how it was able to utilize the technology available at the time. This is why Marathon must be kept what it is. Trying to chase the same feeling nowadays would feel artificial and forced, and any changes would deviate from the inspiration behind Marathon.

I would say that it would be interesting to see more games, or even other media, ask some of the questions that Marathon seemed to be concerned with or see the narrative strengths that existed in marathon be more common, but Bungie is still around and games are becoming more refined every day. Marathon is done. Finished. It's a complete thought. The only other thing that is left to be said about it is the reactions people have had to it. Fortunately, the community is going strong enough that people are still have reactions to it, good and bad.

With all that said, the ideas that inspired it aren't unique to it. Other games have been made and will be made. Thus, rather than pining for another game called "marathon," look for games that embody the spirit of wandering around an enigmatic area, uncovering a world much larger than one's self, and fighting a battle that one has little hope of winning. That is the true spirit of Marathon. No name, person, or company has a monopoly on it.

I play for fun and armory completion. :)

Francis, have you ever even played the Marathon series? Also, I feel that part of their appeal is just how "retro" they are. I would play it if it was done, but I'd prefer to see new content rather than more remakes.

Marathon was a great game, but to make it compete nowadays, you'd have to change everything. Might as well just make a new game, and call it... destiny? It's just a thought.

Who the hell do you think I am?

Another Marathon game would be cool, but I think it's best that they just focus on their next game.

Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own council will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.” -Yoda

Not so much of a remake but continuing in some way. I would love to see his helmet like I did in Halo 3. I loved the reflection that came off of it!

The stories that helmet could tell. Traveling through infinite space and time.

As much as I'd like to see a Marathon remake/revision; I would rather have a completely new and fresh game to play.

I grew up with the NES, so crappy graphics don't bother me, but a remake would be nice. The main problem is that remakes rarely catch the original feel while still coming off as modern. I would still buy them though.

Please refrain from posting if you have half a brain to make such a stupid statement. "Marathon has low rez graphics and it can be confusing to play." Maybe because it's...dated...? I don't understand why you negate retro games from influencing current titles.
