It isn't our shiznit anymore.

The Bungie community's immaturity has always baffled me. Ever since that day when people figured out how to embed pictures on the forums and all hell broke loose, I began to wonder why other forums don't have that same problem. I've already posted my thoughts regarding why the situation has gotten to the breaking point it is currently at, but I never thought about the origin of the entire issue.

So was Bungie just unfortunate enough to be gifted with an already immature gaming community and then the Bungie webteam created policies and rules among its forums in an effort to quell this immaturity or was the average maturity on Bnet aligned with many other forums in the beginning and the policies and rules created a breeding ground for immaturity?

It would help greatly if some ancient members would share their experiences in the '04 and previous eras as well as any policy/rule changes similar to the one we all experienced a few months ago.

Only after we ban Bricypoo.

The older people get the more they draw away from the video gaming (most of the time). Usually the peak of people who play video games are between the age of 12-18, which is why this community may seem immature. Of course that is why finding mature groups with people your age can change everything.

The beta is super awesome. RogueAssassin27 is now the person who got my Totodile's nickname. Hoo-hah! Relevant.inb4lock

Honestly, I think the immaturity leaked from urk and spread to the Ninjas and then infected us.

  • 01.03.2012 11:08 AM PDT

I'd figure asshats like those that would post NSFW pictures are pretty much guaranteed to be in any community as large as this one. Websites like 4chan see it all the time, right?

It's just that most websites that allow pictures aren't big enough for anybody to care about seriously causing trouble. Or so I'd guess anyways.

  • 01.03.2012 11:09 AM PDT

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

That's what. I've always thought. A lot of things here on b.net are the way they are because of past experiences. The community has simply proven they can't handle such privileges.

I'm mature when I post.

Sure, a lot of the community members here are quite immature, with all the nonsense going around like when Bread made his very smart/intelligent thread. http://www.bungie.net/Forum/posts.aspx?postID=68959211&po stRepeater1

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Some of the oldest members are the most immature.

And from my experience, if the annoying people are the majority, the minority gets punished.

Like when they make a comment in one of your threads.

"Oh, another one of Ken's brilliant ideas."

/sarcasm

Those type of people that do that, and -blam!- around other users are the immature ones.

yes, I know

I really wish people around here could be a little more mature. Some people get away with it and keep thinking that they can always be mean becuase the mods don't ban them for it.

  • 01.03.2012 11:17 AM PDT

Let's say that your son is turning ten and you give him a little puppy as a present. What are the chances that he's going to be a responsible owner if this is his very first pet? Not very high I would think.

But on the other hand, if you've always had pets in the house since before he was born, I think he's much more likely to be responsible with that poor puppy that you gave him.

A bit of an on the spot and forced analogy, but I imagine what makes Bungie.net different from those other places is that here, the abillity to post images is somewhat of a new novelty, where as in other places it's something that has always been around. I imagine, given time and a lot of permabans, people would stop abusing the abillity to post images as it would eventually lose it's novelty.

I still think that we are fine without the abillity to put images in our posts, but I just thought I'd offer my two cents, that is, if what I said makes any sense whatsoever.

You should see Epic game forums. You can post any images you want and I have never seen a shock site or any NSFW images.

Because the moderators there are strict beyond belief. You think the mods here are unfair? You'll get permabanned for criticizing their games. Be thankful the mods here don't do that.

BF3's EAUK forum has little moderator enforcement and they can post images. Haven't seen any NSFW pictures either.

I actually got a threat from lead programmer Geo Gaf that I would be banned. I called Epic "greedy" for selling disk locked content.

I know people who have been banned from GOW3 for something on the forums.

But if pictures were added, IDK how the community would react.

Alright I'm getting tired of this fight between older members and newer members. So let me just go through everything to hopefully clear some things up. Bungie.net is a lot like High school, you have the "older teens" and the "younger teens". The older teens have usually gone through and matured the way they act. They change the way they talk, walk, the things they do, exc.

That is what it is like on Bungie.net, The older members have "matured" in the way they act. Newer members start off not knowing how they are "supposed" to "act". Now I'm not at all saying that this is the way things should be at all, just giving a illustration. (I was going to do a better one about "cool kids", "nerds", exc. but I accidentally deleted it and didn't want to write it again.)

Now usually when these "older kids" or a better term "cool kids" a lot of the "not cool kids" kid mad/depressed. What they really need to do is just ignore them. When members are treating you bad on Bungie.net just ignore them. Keep doing your thing, and as you progress in experience you will change to a more "mature" bungie.net level. Then you will not be looked as "badly' on.

I wish I could just say "oh yeah, older members will just change and stop doing that" but that would be a lie. It is the way society itself as always functioned. There will always be those people who make fun of you or look down on you. Just ignore them, they aren't going to keep doing it unless they can see it bothers you. (they still may not like you, but they will give you less crap on the forums) This isn't just to you thought, this is to all "new members".

Now I will stop making this thread off topic and more directed on the correct topic. I hope I wrote this in a way that it is easily comprehended. I also hope you actually read this and think about it.
