my speculation: the flash of light is a signal to forerunners who survived the original purge and are liviing outside the milky way, thus indicating the return of the forerunners and some loose ends being tied up in halo. at least thats how i figured it. tell me what u think.

plus, i doubt it is a apocalyptic sort of blast, otherwise MC is taking it like hes got a pair.

The Halo's are planetary sized. By the looks of this artifact, it seems to be only a few miles wide at the most. And I don't think the Halo's have the little spikes that the ark has...sorry.

Dude, it would be so cool if we had these pregnant sentinels that were, like, all flaming and shot out baby flaming sentinels that would be all "YARRRGH!" then they'd be like, "WHAAAAR" when they shoot.

That'd be sweet.

i rember seeing somewhere a sketch of the ark. I think if you google it you can find it. But it looks very similar to the artifact in the game. It also makes more sense that this would be the ark because of the last dialogue with 343 and the Arbiter in halo 2 and the biblical references bungie is making.

We have rose from the ashes of battle and we're goin' back in......................maybe...

Bungie has repeatedly said that the "hole" in the ground is only about three miles wide so the possibility its a Halo ring is out of the question

I think the Ark is a ship. Ever heard of Noah's Ark? Yea, well, it was a ship. It is the key to activate the Halos, but it's a ship.

Sorry to sink your ship. In the Bible it says "on the seventeeth day of the second month the ark rested on the mountians of Ararat". Thats in the Middle east buddy. Notice how the setting on that trailer was in africa?? The arc is called "The Arc of the Covenant". It was brought to Ethiopia by Moses. Zanzibar is an island off of Tanzania. Mosbasa is a city in Kenya. All three countries I named are in east Africa, and are in savannahs, which is the setting for the trailer.

Ok, the pics are a bit small but it's a good view of the thing right before the flash of light
