One thing about all these uncomprehensible things - the trick to 'getting' it is to not try to get it. Don't try to think of something you know is ununderstandable.

Example: I know what 'infinite' means. However, I don't understand infinite - I realize that I can only grasp so much. When I think of infinity I don't strain my mind since my mind already accepts I can't understand it.

kind of off subject but my grandfather used to tell boy scouts that at the edge of the universe it was a solid wall. If you went through the wall, there was an old man on the other side that yelled at you to go back.

Well, essentially without gravity, you have no cohesion. Subatomic particles move. That's very, very bad. I'm not going to say anything about evaporation into nothingness, but I guess technically all "matter as we would see it would be ripped apart. It wouldn't be nothing, but invisible and impossible to see.

--If you were to pack all of the particles of your body in you would occupy the head of a pin.

I love it when old people fool young people on purpose.

Yeah - an atom is (if I remember correctly) 99% nothing.

Don't worry, quantum mechanics isn't typically a required course for most majors.

ya an atom is mostly embpty space with a TINY neucleus (i no its spelled wrong) that if the atom was blown up to the size of a football field would only be like the size of a tack right?

and then the electrons are all spinning around the outside

i need a drink

Did you hear the theory that the dark matter might really be a sister universe, behind our own, and that the dark matter is really normal matter in the other universe?

Yeah, that deals with the idea of an omniverse. Since 2/3 (I think) of the known universe is dark matter, that is why it expands. If dark matter had the same properties, the other universe would be exactly the same size. If it had opposite properties, where dark matter really was gravity, I think it would never truly exist and simply be an infinitely small point of matter, collapsed upon itself. Too speculative whereas what would happen if gravitational forces outnumbered dark matter.

I don't like the basics around the theory, but I haven't looked at the mechanics of it. Parallel universes are usually used to satisfy shortcomings in the equation, but it could be fact.

I agree. Still, it is an interesting theory.

The people who think up new theories sometimes fall in love with them, and will create psuedo-theories just to support them.

I hate people who say the Holocaust never happened.

I spoke with a Holocaust victim for about four hours once - I assure you - this man was the best liar ever, or it really happened.

Yeah, you can get people to believe anything. (You don't need doublethink if you're gullible)

As long as you wear a labcoat.
