Actually, yes. You can play Halo 1 on the 360 and with no problems (as far as I can see) as well.

Phrog pilots, reckless and free. We would strap into our birds, set the engines on fire, and leave these earthly bonds with a chorus of WHOP WHOP WHOP. Akin to beating your chest and howling in defiance at the rest of the world.

Yes, the 360 comes with emulators for Halo 1 and 2 stored in the hardware. You can plug it in and start playing.

Edit: Taz beat me to it.

Well... it comes with everything you need for Halo 1.

As for Halo 2... you'd need some updates in order to play it with few to no problems.

There once was a boy named Cass
His balls were made out of brass
In stormy weather
His balls clinked together
And sparks flew out of his ass

Next time if you can check the list of backwards compatibility games at xbox.com. Just a suggestionn...

When I played Halo 2 out of the box without downloading the extra updates, it not only sounded weird, the graphics were very... broken, I guess.

Heh, I just got off Halo on my 360. It runs very smooth. The only problem I see is sometimes the picture gets a little screwy during cinmeatics. Definatly playable though. My firiends and I play it a lot during LANs using the 360. So like others have said, it is playable on the 360.

The 360 was designed so it would be backwards compatible with most Xbox games, including Halo. The only problem you might experience is some tearing during cinematics; this is caused because the the 360 has to sometimes slow down for the game, its too fast lol. But it playable on the 360.
