So I'm still a bit ignorant about all of this. What effect would this have on one's nude female pictures and videos viewing?
In all seriousness this bill could be used to strike down hundreds of online -blam!- sites.

Edit: Stupid filter; "NSFW sites."

Ah, someone leaked. Now to find the leak and.... plug it.
With justice.

I use coup 5

Bloom isn't whats broken, its your idea of what good is and your opinion
Thats like saying uber nerf armor lock because like 20 percent of the community hates it. Oh wait..................

Op I support any Anti sopa steps 100 percent.
Im sad that it took ApocX posting to get good discustion on this. All other threads have been filled with trolls.

I have seen ninjas posting on these alot and they bring up some valid points. Especially that a Direct Ip work around won't work 100 percent if the law does pass.

The part that everyone should be able to get behind ( if not the censorship ) Is how badly this will impact DNS resolution

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Chill out, mate. He was obviously joking about. There is no reason for you to be such a dick to him.

OT: Would be nice; doubt they'll do it.

Bungie is above any human law.

Sadly pathetic responses like yours will not help prevent this law passing.

Any site hosting pirated pronz pics could be "blocked" to any US viewer. But, if SOPA passes, government has the instrument in place to "block" online pronz entirely, were the moral majority ever in favor of it.

I guess the silver lining will be that you don't always need a DNS server to get where you want to go.

Just to make sure...

I'm English. I live in England. If SOPA passes, can I still watch pronz site that may be hosting private pronz pictures?

And be quick about it!

GoDaddy? As in the site with the commercials that say "GoDaddy GO GO DADDY" and they has a NASCAR?

Didn't know Bungie had anything to do with that site.

And I hope they're against SOPA

Is a site on which many companies register their domains. Bungie isn't directly affiliated with them.

Beyond being Bungie's registrar they're also Bungie's SSL Certificate Authority.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

GoDaddy changed their stance, they now claim they're against SOPA. It really doesn't matter what Domain registrar they use, because I'm sure they are all secretly for SOPA whether they state it or not. They just don't say they are for it because they don't want to end up like GoDaddy and lose a lot of service.

They obviously only changed it because everyone flipped -blam!- on them for being idiots about the whole thing. A change of heart that isn't sincere isn't a change of heart at all.

Search engines have to de-index sites that violate the law? That... why...
Pretty much this.

Here, I am going to go google "torrent"

...
...
...

I received 151,000,000 results. I'm going to hazard a guess that at least HALF of those are links to a torrent site of some sort (a safe estimate, in my opinion).

It'd be very difficult (and most likely hugely inefficient) to make a bot that could somehow find out if a site was malicious (within the parameters of the bill)*. And without a bot to do it, that means they'd have to go in and de-index, by hand, all of those 'illegal' sites**.

None of ^that is even beginning to consider the fact that that was ONE search with ONE word used. There must be hundreds of millions of sites that Google is going to have to de-index.

I'm not arguing with anyone by the way... just ranting.

*Even I know this sounds silly... but it's the extent of the knowledge I have on the subject. If someone could inform me more so and correct me, I thank you in advance.

**See the first footnote.

Five years older and wiser

EPIC has come out now saying they don't support SOPA

ALSO ACTIVISION IS NOT SUPPORTING SOPA. It was a mistake made in an announcement. This is probably why they don't support it.

Here is a list of all games coming out in 2012 that are not released by SOPA supporters.

To all the people saying "herr derr there is an easy work around" that is not the point. There is a work around for everything, for pirating and for getting around SOPA. The point is the US government is actively blocking sites. You may know how to get around it but the majority of people wont. And even worst you'll be looked down on for even going to a blocked site.

SOPA isn't going to get far at all.

If it's gone way further than it should have already.

A very important thing for Bungie is that they need to remember they are not owned by any parent company anymore. Even if Activision publishes their content Bungie can still have their own stance. I love Bungie and what they do for their community and in gaming. They need to publicly speak on their stance to help stop SOPA because even if it may seem like SOPA helps them protect their content, it hurt their community. I remember in an old bungie interview, infact maybe even in the Bungie anniversary ViDoc an employee said something along the liens of "Bungie are a very -blam!- The Man/Suits group of people" [i'll try to find the video and quote] well if you still are, show us!

Nothing will change for anyone outside the US. We have no jurisdiction over non-US sites or users. The offending sites will not be affected, it just makes it a bit harder to get to from the US. That is the fatal flaw in the bill, in targeting sites it has no legal jurisdiction over, the US government decided policing all citizens to make sure they don't visit a site the government deems bad is a worthwhile way to combat piracy.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I believe that Bungie should do this. It's IMO the right thing to do and it would show that they support the majority of their fan-base.
