As the movie starts it is quite obvious that there are multiple rings that have been destroyed in the landscape behind Master Chief.
They are of course too small to be halos.
Could they be these Zanzibar wheels, since the preview is set in the same general area for Zanzibar.

In addition, one of the concept drawings in the screenshot section of Halo 3 brings something up. The drawing has Master Chief in the center of the picture but the artist obviously meant to draw these wheels on purpose, placing great emphasis on them.

So, with that, does anyone think that these could somehow hint to the status of Earth? or could they be something besides the windmills??

Africa was the only place the Covenant landed, so it very well could be.

A recent study says that 92% of teens turned emo, put this in your signature if you're part of the 8% the stayed gangsta as -blam!-.

I think it is an obvious refrence to Zanzibar.

I am almost positive that in the background, it is the remainders of the mabasa bridge from Halo 2, it would make perfect sense

well there are three or four of them and they are awfully spread apart for the bridge.
and it was a suspension bridge with vertical beams if i'm not mistaken

they are obviously placing a lot of emphasis on Zanzibar in just a 2 minute video

Home is were the Hog is.

No. Not the bridge.

Bungie has said what they are.

"According to the Bungie website, scenes in the trailer are mixtures of different scenes and animations from the actual game, which include the space elevator wreckage that Master Chief walks through at the beginning of the trailer."
