I'd love to have voice commands in Halo 3's campaign. It would add a huge amount of replay-ability. It's also would be very revolutionary. There's been games that you can command units in before, yes, but they've always forced you to go through annoying menus that take away from gameplay. The game would truely make you feel like a spartan talking over a radio and commanding troops.
Right now you're probably thinking, "It would be cool, but how the hell could someone program something so complex?"
How? By making it not complex at all. Think of a cell phone. You can program the name of someone into your phone so when you say it, it calls someone. Use the same type of program in the game but instead of linking it to a phone number, link it to an AI script.
Have an option in the settings menu where you go and record your voice for commands like "Hold this postion", "Cover Me", "Retreat", etc. It then just records your voice to the harddrive. Language wouldn't be a problem since it's recording what you say. Heck you could make it so when you say "I eat barf" your marines retreat.
Heck it wouldn't take up much space on the game disc either. Cells phones have what, 256MB of memory? Most of that space would be needed for ring tones, the recordings themselves, pictures you download, etc. That means that the program itself can't take up much space. Let's say it'll take up 5mb (that's a high guess). An average DVD is 4.7mb. 5mb is nothing.
I hope someone from bungie reads this... lol Comments?
