Ah,so youre right. Havent read First Strike in forever. But even so, a fleet of 500 Covenant vessesl would be enough to take Earth, considering that the Covenant still have the capability to land ground troops to take out the generators. And planting bombs on the stations seemed effective as well. Besides, they may have had at least a hundred of ships with beam weapons, so they could sit just outside the MAC guns range and "snipe" them.

Hey Tubman you're 100% on bro.

Some of you dudes need to go read the books.
Anyway i don't understand how the covenant won either, well yeah they did win but it could not have been easy. 298 super-duper MAC guns is nothing to play with. The MACs protecting earth are speculated to be even bigger than the ones that kicked so much azz at Reach. Even if the covenant brought 400-500 ships there fleet would have taking tremendous losses.

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

heres another idea, the covenant recently gained the ability to perform a slipspace jump in a gravity well, its what allowed them to jump in the middle of new mombasa, this is normally not possible, but now that they can do it, whats stopping them from jumping past the guns altogether? maybe even right to the surface......and the reason regrets fleet didnt do it is because they didnt know the guns would be there, so they didnt know they would have to jump past anything

Well everyone here suspects that all of those ships at Earth are enemy ships. For all any of us know, those are Covenant Separatist (IE Arbiter) led ships that helped us fight off Truth's half of the fleet. The Arbiter went to Earth to help stop Truth from activating the Ark (and with it the Halos), and that's why see see those ships there. He was, after all, a fleet commander before he became the Arbiter.

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

that is in all respects possible but i dont think thats likely, the mood of the trailer was an omg we're boned kind of mood, besides the arbiter had miranda and johnson with him and if this is truly 1/3 into the game they were bound to have come across the chief somewhere, and probably would have been nice enough to give him a ride instead of leave him on the cliff

some of you guys are forgetting the civil war going on between the covenant of brutes vs elites, and the covenant have as much at stake as the humans in the last of the triligy of the halo books after the 500 ships were destroyed truth ordered every remaining ship to earth one does not commit everything unless they are desperate

as for the mac guns i dont think there are any super mac cannons and even then during the battle for reach the "super carrier" that keyes last fought evaded the mac rounds due to them being too slow

based on h2 the the only ship seen are the amber clads and they are alot smaller than the piller and the last navy base was reach so i doubt that any new ships can be made

and if your wondering how we lose to the covenant play campign mode and dont fight and you will watch the marines get owned and master chief was gone a while

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

sorry man in the books the covenant have crap for tactics, they always rush in, the humans are the ones with the brilliant tactics, how do you think they win any battles? I.E. Keys loop at sigma octanus

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

hey and to counter your "dont play and watch the marines get owned idea" read the second book and see how much better ground fighters the humans are compared to the covenant

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

haha that might be a good idea, just so ya know, fall of reach and first strike are the best, but you should still read em all

but they are not on earth are they? hell jumpers kicked ass anyways

yea humans can get equal footing on land but the ships just blast the land forces

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

thats what ultimately loses the war, or at least puts us in as bad of a position as we are now, the fact that we can win as many land battles as we want, but they will just blow us to crap from orbit

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

but back to the civil war thing, do you guys think all the elites seceded or some stayed, cuz only fighting jackals drones and brutes is going to be unendingly retarded

I don't know if you realized it, but the covenant technology is superior to that of the humans, and the humans have been losing the war.

Not to mention that the Covenant could easily have tons of reinforcments arrive.

there is the possibility of a three way fight on earth or even a 4 way fight if you include the flood

it would be boring if its only brutes(easier than elites), drones(kick my ass every time), and jackals(little harder than grunts but still easy) so what are the odds that there will be a new species of covenant

and i wonder if the convant are trying to assimilate humans because they conquered earth not glassed it like all the colonies

we know they didn't want to glass it because the Arc was there, we humans didn't know till the end of Halo 2. So instead of glassing they just conqured.

One shot: one kill, zero seconds to live

covenant ships are very fast it wouldn't take too long to call in reinforcements and the covenant would respond quickly to further kill off the human race, especially if it was Earth.
