MC is a cyborg, not entirely human. the sentinels only protect pure humans.

The sentinels didn't attack MC, not until guilty 343 told them too, go play the opening to the Library from H1 again, they were your friends in the beginning. They seem to attack everything that they aren't intructed not to during a flood outbreak.

but how could they tell that the master chief was in fact a human? they couldnt. just like most of the people here still think that the master chief is not human but a robot.

They arent humans. Humans are the Reclaimers, not the Forrunners.

Right now, we don't know either way, but I think what really coins that we are is what the Monitor says in Halo 1-

Their survival as a race was dependent upon it. I am grateful to see that some of them survived to reproduce.

Guilty Spark recognized MC as someone who can activate the Halo. Apparently only humans can activate the halos cause in Halo 2 Tarturus needs Ms. Keyes to put in the index. It would seem the humans have some sort of relation to the forerunner, but because they didn't know anything about the halos, it would seem that knowledge was lost when the forerunners -- their predecessors -- killed themselves when activating the halos. I don't think they are exactly human, but pretty close.

the forrunners were huge fire people
who once used the halos as their hula-hoops.
one day bunches of bacteria they called flood.
infected their hula-hoops and kick balls(planets) which made things a dud.
they could no longer live in peace
playing soccer, hopskotch, and eating cheese
therefore they decided to create a bug bomb that would blow up the bacteria in their houses.
the problem was that they had a shrink ray and the prophets tricked them and their spouses and shrunk them, activated the bug bomb destroying the forrunners and the flood
whilst the prophets flew away on their big floating chairs laughing all the the way, hey.

Sentinels were made to protect the forerunners from the flood:correct
so if the forerunners were humans then the sentinels would not attack the MC

They didn't, until 343 Guilty Spark caused them to when the Master Chief refused to activate the ring. As for on Delta Halo, the reclaimer is supposed to be guided to the control room by the monitor of the installation, and so it is likely the monitor that is supposed to keep the sentinels from attacking the Master Chief. The Master Chief was not recognized as a reclaimer, so the sentinels will attack him. As for the Arbiter, he is an Elite, and Elites were never chosen as reclaimers in either of the games, so he would be recognized as an enemy rather than a friend, and be attacked as well by the sentinels.

well basically 343 guilty spark told them to.. and 343 was the AI programmed to look after the halo, and so of course, the sentinels do what 343 wants.. also, with all the knowledge that guiltyspark has, he could easily override old protocols.

after all, the main goal is to prevent flood outbreak, no matter what. that's what guilty spark ( and all the other AI's of each halo) were designed to do.

Obviously Guilty Spark recognizes MC as one to activate the halo and as a decendent of the forerunner. Nice comment Mulletman.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

They protect humans by default, but if, say, one goes crazy, a monitor, which is programmed to contain the flood no amtter what, can override this programming.

why does everyone assume he is refering to foreunners?

i think that that statement is about the flood, they survived without food long enough to be able to reproduce.... (remember the monitor studies them)

i do not think the humans are forerunners, they are a relatively new race to the haloverse, even if humans were forerunners there would have been evidence left behind, and it would have been found by 2552.

True. 343 only had the Sentinels attack MC because that was the only way the monitor could see to force MC to activate Halo. Maybe rampancy, maybe just a failsafe to make sure the ring goes off. But since Gravemind is holding Delta Halo's monitor captive right now, there wasn't exactly anyone to make sure the MC was unharmed. Possibly the monitor of Delta Halo (named Penitent Tangent) gave some last minute instructions to the sentinels before he was captured: "contain the outbreak and all flood food!"
Guess what: after beating Legendary, I've concluded that MC definitely DOES qualify as Flood food.

everyone knows that the forerunners are a smart bunch of folk, am i right?

The forerunner's were really smart. they made the rings. they had all the technology. they could warp betweeen galaxies...

They would have had a backup-plan. In the event of the rings wiping out the galaxy of all nutrients for the flood, they would have got into the ark...

remember Noah's Ark, kids?

40 days and 40 nights... maybe it refers to thousands of years? milllions?

basically, the forerunner could possibly still be alive.. the ark.. hmm.

Perhaps the sentinals where programed to destroy life, seeing how the sentinals were contained with the flood. Or maybe it was because the MC pissed 'em off by not activating Halo.
