Subject: Why are the Humans so unadvanced?

Various sanctions, treaties and agreements could have been passed that limited the types of weapons we could produce. That's why we have the same ordinance(Ballistic missles and the same old automatic or semi-automatic weapons) but more advanced ways of deploying them(Starships, better armor and combat A*I specialists). If humanity gets a little more advanced when it comes to weapons, then it is now, I doubt we would still be alive 500 years into the future. People would be too efficient at waging war.

The bulk of those 500 years was most likely spent on Space Travel. Faster than Light travel, at this point in time, is a scientific impossibility, it just can't be done. Hundreds of years of research was probably put into FTL travel. And at that point, as far as we knew, we were alone in the galaxy, so theres no use in developing high tech weapons.

And, as was said before, we had no need for them. The enemies we've been fighting before the Covenant were other humans with the same weapons, and when the Covenant did rear its ugly head, it pretty much started to wipe us out one planet at a time.

And not to mention the AI... it would take probably a million, maybe more, 100 gb hard drives to store the amount of information Cortana can. The advancements are there, they just arent in our weapons technology.

But thats just my opinion, i could be wrong

I am...whimsical today.

It'd be very difficult for Bungie to accuratly guess what the Military state of play would be in the future. I guess they picked a longer future date, so that all the advanced stuff might be likely, or at east possible. They probably kept the projectiles as they would sell the game better. We also needed to be able to be beaten by the Covanant, while not giving them too advanced technology, so that we atleast had a chance.

I am pretty ure lasers would be a tad unresourceful, and tbh, iant they just high intensity light? so the covies could just get a huge mirror. plasma (what covies use) isnot a laser btw- its superheated gass i thnk..

high tech weaponry is stuff like rail guns and mach guns (which we are developing atm)

anything more advanced..is probably inconcieveable to the lieks of us forum users.. (but whatever the wep is, it would be very precise to be effective..

As far as the weapons the humans use in Halo, after the Earth united and all nations became one central government, there was no need to go to war with each other. Hence, no more need to advance our weapons. War has a necessity for better weapons, and necessity is the mother of invention. After the humans all united, they spent all their resources on space exploration and colonizing other planets; that's why they have all those cool space ships (like the Pillar of Autumn). Then, once other planets had been colonized, some of the people who lived on those planets grew distant from their home planet and began to rebel. This is where the necessity for war and weapons came back, and the Spartan program was made.

"Not really. They eat their wounded."
"Just like chiropractors!" Caboose - funny -blam!-

"If god is love, then you can call me cupid" Sarge.

Whispering marine - "you'll give away our position!"
sarge - "I'll do as i damn well please!" (kills grunt with sniper rifle)
elites rule, MCs r cool

You have to admit, there were 20 ish (i think) super MAC stations around reach, probably double that on Earth. Can you imagine the resources, time, money and manpower it would take to construct them. I think creating something that can punch a hole through a 3km long space ship with shielding and different alloy armour is pretty damn advanced. But thats just my opinion. PS i want a super MAC station.

HALO 3

I think the human bodie is like 6 to 9 gs before you die which is like umm 300 mph to 900 mph or something. The speed of light would kill us straight away. it would have to be advanced to do it.

Also, unadvanced?

The Mjolnir armor.
flash cloning.
Body augmentations.
Space travel (that is actually good).
Colonization of other planets.
Orbital defense platforms.
The space elevator.
etc.

The mjonlnir armor was taken from the covenant.
Space travel is the only thing that would really take 500 years

The flash cloning, body augmentations, orbital defense platforms and space elevator could all be done in the next 200 years. The colonization of other planets would come after space travel.

I think that it should be the year 2400 max. If you go to Howstuffworks.com and/or watch futureweapons on disc., you will see that in 50 years we could have the kinda weapons that MC uses. And you can't say it the covy's fault we don't have good weapons, becuase we've only been fighting them for around 20 years.

I think the only plausable theory is that they didn't need stronger weapons. But it will still be a long time before there is world peace, and in that time we would have made better weapons. And if they took the time and resources to make (50?) mac orbital stations around earth, then they are obviously scared that it will be attacked. Well, that would be good reason to develop better technology.

Well think about it this way 50 yrs ago people thought that we would be living on other planets and in the sky like the Jetsons and that we'd be driving around in our hover cars eating food tablets. We've advanced so fast as a species in the past 100yrs it was inevitable that we'd slow down in the future. Just look at computers like 6-8 yrs ago things were speeding up very quickly a 33mhz processor was the fstest we could go then a 1ghz came out 4 gb was all we could get bam a 60gb hits the market now in the past year or so we haven't got all that far ahead of last years biggest and fastest. And btw laser weapons are horribly ineffiecent at long distances which is most likely why they went with a mac gun.

I'm not sure unadvanced is a word... and even if it was, wouldn't it just be a really crazy way to say "behind"?

Technology is moving along a lot slower than fiction would like it to. An example would be the movie 2001: A space odyssey, where we were supposed to be much further into space exploration at this point. The real future would be more like the Aliens series where due to technological evolution the mainstay of their forces tends to be the tried-and-true, rugged, projectile weapons.

Another example would be how Halo even has the same sensor as Alien: the motion sensor. After thousands of years of human evolution our eyes are still based largely on noticing motion. It is a very basic and efficient way of picking out things that don't belong. If it works, why fix it.

You can't also forget the bottom line: money. In the future there will still be politicians. Only they'll have new names like Orbital Drop Shock Politicians. And they will still think that while it is possible to equip every trooper with a laser rifle and crazy combat armor it's cheaper to give them a gun, a clip of bullets, some kevlar, and a smile for the camera.

It was for balance. And it's a game.

this is not just a game dude, bungie has spent so much time making this as deep as a movie with books and story line, there is so much detail to everything except why our weapons are not any more advanced as they are now, bungie slipped on this one by not explaining it to us, and i for one really would like to know why

omg!

hey, if ´u havent noticed not even the covenant have laser, the only enemy with a laser is the sentinels!

covenants = plasma guns, and we all know plasma is NOT laser beacaus plasma is super hot material (i dont kno what it is but its hot)

and humans where quite evolved, but i dont think we spent that much evulotion in warfare, beacaus when the covenant apeared we had no wars or conflickts to focus on...

Imagine a world where 747s are flying around with giant lasers shooting at ballistic missiles. Well that world could happen in the next decade with our new technology. What i ask is why do the humans have no laser weaponry. I like the ballistic weaponry for our ground troops but no high intensity lasers on our ships? WTF?!? is this the stone age. we will have powerful airborne lasers by 2100 for sure. yet we have nothing in 2552? That is my main complaint about Halo in general.

umm it goes solid-liquid-gas-plasma
and evolution is different to technological advancement.

Or maybe if people actually knew what lasers were then they wouldn't say that. Lasers are not what you see in star wars: a fast colorfull beam of light. Lasers are invisible to human eyes and must be charged up. They have planes now that use lasers to shoot down mistles, the laser has to be pointed at the mistle for something like 10 seconds for it to breach its armor. Mistles dont have much armor so they are pretty weak. Now in the future they could be stronger, but lasers also spread out as they go a little making them less strong.

Yeah, lasers are not viable combat weapons for an individual soldier. As a form of light, it disperses and can be reflected, unlike a round. There's no advantage to using a laser over a missle-firing weapon, none at all. Furthermore, people used swords for thousands of years, and the advent of the gun is only a few hundred years in the past. And in terms of equipping an individual soldier, it can't get much more advanced than "point-and-shoot," which is what you'd be doing with a laser anyway. The only reason so much has changed in the *past* 500 years is due to the Renaissance and the digital revolution. I definately think putting the setting 500 years hence is a lot safer than 200 years. FTL travel would require a complete reconstruction of physics, and even nearly-as-fast-as-light travel poses the problem of how to accelerate all parts of the craft at the same time. At our level of understanding, its an impossibility.

But here's my explanation why Humans hadn't advanced in 500 years.

The over-population creates too much problems so Goverment decides to create ships cabable for FTL (Faster than Light) Ships to travel to other planets. Most of the research funding goes for Medical and Ship advancements. Now they have ships and things to keep people happy, they use ships to carry stuff around.
There wasn't a moment where they would've needed a ship that could use laser as Ships rarely battled. They were only used for planetary invasions where missiles did the job while marines landed via Pelicans.

Rifles and snipers were enough to fight soft fleshy humans, with no protection. umans arent still cabable to carry armor to protect from rifle rounds, so it would be waste of resources to make gun that would cause more harm to its carrier than to the target.

why is the weapons not as advanced as they could be.... simple, a little thing called world war 3...

i'd say that sometime in the timeline before the exspansion into space, FTL drives etc. there was a 3rd global war.

from that war they could have used limited nucular weapons >>> EMP pulses to destroy enemy technology. the same EMP pulses would destroy any computer system/electronics that are not protected.

also from a new global war the casualty rate would be huge.. the population deminished by carpet bombing, drought (the weather is already messed up), famine, lack of water etc. and you can see the human race plunged back a couple hundred years overnight from a limited nucular exchange.

just a thought... or they are not advanced enough yet... the covenant is how old?... i mean the species in the covenant, how far advanced are they?.. i'm not sure on that

If you think about it it is correct about the ballistic weaponry. Now think how long did it take for humans ballistic weapons? practically our hole existance to create balistic weapons. (atleast a few 1000 yrs)
