Subject: Plasma Weapons

What happens when a Covenant plasma weapon runs out of energy?

Do the Covenant just discard the weapon and forget about it?

  • 01.04.2012 9:43 PM PDT

Pretty sure they have recharging stations.

  • 01.04.2012 9:47 PM PDT

I'm sure those weapon holding crates we always run into are a sort of charging station. They are pretty big to just be a holder.

  • 01.04.2012 10:04 PM PDT

Break down, every single one of you.

I am sure there is a way to recharge them. It wouldn't make sense to create a weapon like that which can be used only once.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

Or, they use replaceable batteries just like humans use magazines for our weapons.

They do have energy cells in them. There's bound to be a way to either change the cells or recharge them.

You could either recharge them, or replace them.

Needle weapons, fuel rod guns, melee weapons and carbines are exceptions.

They need to be recharged, and presumably you need to replenish the gas they are using to make the actual plasma as well.

As to why the Covenant would go for that over replaceable power packs, possibly easier to engineer, but almost certainly political reasons.

The Covenant weapons are reverse engineered from Forerunner ones, they are gifts from the 'near-divine' prophets to the lower ranks, they don't want every grunt to be able to reload it on the fly. No, they want the grunt to look on it as something almost magical that they are allowed to use and then have to give back at the end of their deployment, otherwise if they fail to do so it simply stops working.

It also has the added benifit that if a soldier goes rogue he can't just take a rucsack full of ammo clips with him.

This of course means soldiers are relying on a power generator back at camp though, a potential point of failure.

They need to be recharged.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

No. As seen in Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach, they have Plasma batteries and recharching stations.

Actually, I think one could probably recharge a Gravity Hammer or an Energy Sword. Other wise that would be REALLY retarded.

Well they also wouldn't run out of power anywhere near as quickly as they do in the game either, but yeah, what everyone else has been saying. All the Covenant weapons that have a battery life or whatever probably have recharging stations and/or replaceable power cells. And none of those weapons would deplete anywhere near as fast as they do when the player is using them either.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Gravity hammers wouldn't need to be recharged and swords wouldn't be charged for religious reasons.

Also known as Entropy91
Black Water Ops representative.
See you on the battlefield.

My guess is that there is a way to recharge or replace the battery, but swapping the whole thing out for one of the 50 billion others just lying around after a firefight is faster.

We should know better, because we are better.

They do have recharging stations. John/Six/Rookie is a human and therefore doesn't know how to recharge them. I bet we blew a few up in our time.

Of course they would need to be recharged, both of them use energy when in use, eventually it will be used up.
And I don't see either the Jiralhanae or Sangheili throwing away such high status weapons just because they have run out of batteries.

Noooooo, kidding. I mean look at our civilization today. We have recharge stations already in development from GE. I'm sure the we will have them still in 2552. And I'm damn sure a super advanced alien race that could almost obliterate us would have them too....but better!!!

This does make a lot of sense. A simple holder could be no bigger than a fusion coil and hold 8 plasma rifles.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

There has to be ways of recharging/replacing the battery or power source for plasma based weapons. The big purple crates would be the logical thought, since if it were to only contain weapons, it could fit more of them than just two or four.

Either that, or we just simply dont understand, as stated in the manuals, how to recharge/replace them.

I'm sure that the answer is quite a complicated one, and involves nuclear fusion and microscopic giraffes, but for now I can only offer One Explanation!

P.S. The rabbit's a traitor!

OT: My best theory is that just like a previous poster said, they are rechargeable and the weapon racks we see for the covenant are the charging stations.

But then while you're running around you could just pick up more batteries.

the probably have power cells that can be changed but it takes some time to do it so it isn't worth it on the battlefield

I'm pretty sure this are to the Covenant what this are to us.
