Ok, I am supposed to be studying for a U.S. History final out here at WKU, but I felt the need to attempt to address the assault rifle question. While many have speculated that is a cross between the weapons, such an assertion is false; it is blatantly the old “Blurp Gun” from the good old days of Halo 1. While others continue to deny, this based on the fact that it is old technology, they fail to realize the tactical situation the earth is facing. Although units stationed on Earth may have been supplied with the latest technology, inbound ships, sent to defend the planet may not have. Remember that Earth is essentially the nucleus of human civilization, if the home world falls under attack, surrounding divisions, fleets and troops would be mobilized for its defense, because of its symbolic and strategic value. Furthermore, as supply stations (other planets) are destroyed, it would not be uncommon to rely on old technology. Finally, the division the chief served with in the second game could have been like the 4th Infantry Division in contemporary times, a test element for new technology.

This is Interesting for several reasons:

1. It means that some old weapons could return
2. That may mean the pistol, even if it is a multiplayer option only. (Not Matchmaking)
3. AI among different Units could be formed, with more specialized units taking on more important roles.
