This applies in video games only.

The Halo/Bungie.net community seems to hate anything remotely new, or something remotely similar to other games. This could apply for future Bungie titles, so bear with me.

The Not Halo argument.

I feel that this is a terrible excuse for not trying something new, and is holding Halo games and potentially future Bungie games back (not Destiny LOL).

Do you think the community is right on this matter? Would you rather see sequels of games very similar to the previous one or with changes?

How do you think the community will react?

Since you said "Halo community" I think you want http://halo.xbox.com.

That's the Halo community's new home.

I know, but face it, this place is full of Halo fans, or former Halo fans, and this also applies to future Bungie games.

You should read this.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

People seem to hate the past games too like Myth, Marathon, or Oni or don't seem to care.

I know most of this site (including myself) came for Halo but the Past is equally ignored or shunned.

I think it is because this generation grew up with Halo. I certainly did, it was my first FPS. Most people weren't born when these games came out, or were too young.

I didn't play Myth or Marathon in the Late 90's but I <3 them today. Just not a lot of people still play them sadly and even on their site they are rarely acknowledged.

But no one really wants to download Marathon for free and play it and no one wants to get a copy of Myth for a few bucks and load it up.

But hey, it is their loss.

I consider myself a part of this community and I love more then just Halo.
Do you think the community is right on this matter?
I like new games, thank you. I'm fine with a couple of first person shooter or role play games, as long as they have something that makes each noticeably unique to the other one.
Would you rather see sequels of games very similar to the previous one or with changes?
To your comment? Negatively.
How do you think the community will react?

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

That isn't just Bungie.net, that's all of humanity. Humans resist change quite a bit.

As for the last part, I don't really know what I want in the next Halo, probably go back to Halo 3 and work from there. I want the Halo 3 vehicle system back, Reach's was terrible, as well as no more bloom.

I dunno, I see a lot of comments rebuking the comments that want Halo 4 to be like past titles in Halo 4 threads. It's probably more like 70% want it to be the same, 30% want it to be new.

As for me, I want to be somewhere inbetween. New and exciting, yet nostalgic and classic as well. And may I stress the vehicle system should be like Halo 3's, that's my main desire for the game, vehicles that aren't terrible!

Eh? I'm a little scared to play it but I did watch a playthrough of Marathon. It looks really good for a game from the 90s.

Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

People will undoubtedly complain, so brace yourself.

People will say your sequel sucks if you change too much and other/the same people will say it sucks if it's exactly the same as (or very similar to) the old one. You just can't make everyone happy, and certain people you can't make happy no matter what you do.

Also, this:

You guys care too much.

This happens with every game series, IMO. Look at Call of Duty. Plenty of people I know have been bashing it for changing things up too much from the first Modern Warfare, yet plenty of people love the change (like me). A ton of people hate the latest pseudo-Halo title, Reach (like me), because it deviated too far from the first 3. Yet when it comes to Final Fantasy, a series I haven't played before, I absolutely loved XIII, while plenty of long term fans hated it.

Same -blam!- with music. Nickelback's first album was actually very decent, and then they went completely mainstream and became the poster child for douche bag rock. Breaking Benjamin's first 2 CDs were amazing. When Ben changed up his style for the latest few CDs, the old fans were pissed, and the new fans loved it.

I might be just rambling now, just woke up. But I think you get my point. This sort of thing happens everywhere, from video games, to music, to books, even to movies and TV shows. It's just the nature of things.

Theme Builder 4.1 is out for Bungie.net!

Theme Builders

Well, the problem with Reach is people were expecting something closer to Halo 3 than Reach. Were it a completely different IP it would have gone over better.

When you get a sequel you expect something familiar. Just because people put down changing old IPs doesn't mean they will reject new ones.
