In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I don't think that will work for me. I would go through that limit in less than an hour.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

What's with this site and its users wanting to actually limit access to everything? It's like we're working backwards in this place. I think just having the tread creation limit is good enough, hell if you want a scaling system, scale that. I wouldn't even be effected by this, but I still see no good reason for it.

Soffish: Do not eat!
TWP Assistant Director.

I completely understand this. For someone like myself, a lot of the time, I don't have loads of info and insights to post. I just have small tweaks to help an idea along. One could just contribute many "tweaks", I guess, with a high trust rating, if you catch my meaning here.

Then again there so many many ways to contribute to the community here. If you are contributing in a positive way, why limit that? Trust people until they give you a reason not to be trusted.

The amount of content you can contribute to the community should be tied to how much you can be trusted.

At the moment, the above is typically either a "yes, go ahead and post as much as you want", or "nope, nothing; you're blacklisted". I would much rather see a post limit as a variable which moves according to your amount of trust. The more you behave, the more opportunity you have to contribute, and vice-versa.

Without going off on a tangent... again, privileges.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

What about when Bungie announces a new game? Now you can only post 20 time, and then it's over. Time to walk away.
As it stands, when Bungie announce their new game you can make only seven threads - with the oft cited reason that doing so makes you put thought into each one - and then it's over. Time to walk away.

Off you toddle? je crois non...

Also, people need to worry less about the exact number. I pulled 20 out of thin air, the point is an artificial limitation with the intention of elevating the value of a single post.

Who the hell do you think I am?

A post limit? These forums would never be as active as they are if we had something like that. A post limit is a terrible idea.

As it stands, I believe you can make about 30 posts an hour. So technically it is possible.

As for limiting all posting with the intent of increasing value of said posts is just asinine. This would only decrease activity on the forums and make users angry. I can recall many a thread about increasing the thread limit (most notably by Spatain Ken) now imagine people wasting their precious posts to spout more of that crap. All. The. Time.

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

In terms of how I post on a daily basis: I wouldn't have a problem with it. In terms of how many users in the community post on a daily basis: It's kind of a BIG deal.

You see, this would drastically change the way that many people approach a forum here on bnet. The flood forum would freak. Literally. That forum moves so fast it's very easy to rack up 30-40 posts a day and not even realize it. Your idea would also force many people to go to private groups. Once they run out of posts for the day, they would flock to private groups to continue posting - unless they already have multiple accounts and just stick with them.

I see your point in trying to limit the number posts per day so people would spend more time trying out quality posts, but this suggestion isn't something that's practical, especially with the way Bungie.net forums work. What other forum limits the amount of posts you can have per day?

:/

Why would that slow it down?

Most people who post here post less than five times a day.

What happens if a discussion arises in a single thread and you can't reply due to a post count?

I would imagine the editing of posts would be rife.

All round I don't see the benefits to be honest.

Yes but they don't feel like only making 5 posts takes away from anything. You then feel compelled to save all your daily posts and you become afraid to post anything at all in fear of "wasting" your daily posts on a less important thread.

But, that is not what a forum is about and no one would post.

  • 01.06.2012 7:10 AM PDT

Nah, i'm not keen on this. If people post to much say have a PDD of over 30 then I expect they are just replying to spam and will get whats coming and stuff or have too much free time on their hands.

I only post if I have a strong opinion or am replying to a question. Thats it.

I would love this. It would limit the amount of people posting by a lot and make people actually have to think if they should post. Rather than spamming it with useless memes and nonsense posts.

The point of the forum is to post and discuss. Why should one put a limit on how much someone can discuss? You have to think about how you post, every post. If you don't, it is spam and you could get banned.

But, people will literally be unsure to post anything (no matter how intelligent) if they know they are limited in the amount they can contribute. They don't want to go use up their 20 posts defending something in several threads then another thread comes up and guess what, they can't post.

Also that "meme" garbage, it is the internet, people are just having fun. I think some of the meme posts are funny and you could say many people here (including moderators) post plenty of nonsense posts for the lulz. Everyone wants to have a fun time or they wouldn't keep coming back here.

You would basically be restricting access to the forums.

What about when Bungie announces a new game? Now you can only post 20 time, and then it's over. Time to walk away.

If this was the case, I would personally leave.
Exactly. The forums right now are at an incredibly slow pace. Probably the slowest I've personally seen. If a new game gets announced and you are eager to post in the new board dedicated to the game you'll most likely hit your cap, get angry, and come back to the community forum proposing change.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

You make valid points, but nooooo.

I don't think that it would be a good idea to limit people like that, but it could work.

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

I can see the logic behind limitations like this, but all it would do is lower the activity of the site. Most of the people here on this website wouldn't improve their posting style just for the limit, they'd just switch accounts and keep posting the same way.

This wouldn't work well for users with very low or negative trust (which I understand is the point). The concerning part of it is: if you were banned recently, you'd barely be able to contribute (which in most cases could be a good thing), but it would make it substantially more difficult to recover from said ban with a post limit.

This works too. If there is someone annoying then instead of seeing a limit of them, why not block them entirely?
