This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Hell no.

If you're going to limit it, put the limit at 50 or something.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

While I could see a "potential" benefit of encouraging members to "think before they post" by creating a "limited budget of posts per day", I don't believe that our hosts or community are in favor of such an artificial and arbitrary restriction on participation.

I agree, Quality > Quantity, but that artificially limiting quantity has a predictable and reliable effect on quality.

They didn't make that many Covairs, but they were still crap cars (especially if you ask old Ralph).

I think that real improvements in quality can be encouraged by proper participation and positive reinforcement, by showing fellow members that while it is easy to type anything and hit submit, that the more thought you put into a post, the more response your thoughts are likely to inspire.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Nah, I'd much rather have a block user ability.

This works too. If there is someone annoying then instead of seeing a limit of them, why not block them entirely?
The post limit is about improving the quality of the post, not "you post too much so I don't want to see you". I'm not disagreeing about the block user ability though.

If I wanted to post more than 20 posts per day what's stopping me from just making a new account?

That first part doesn't really help solve or prevent the problem that I pointed out with the idea, unless you make the limit very high for everyone with a title higher than member.

About that second part, second accounters already exist, but with this feature, a large portion of all the users that hit the limit will just start making a second account (their first one). I know that if this happened, I'd make a second account and possibly a third.

In such cases, if there's no way no way to stop people from making multiple accounts, even if this lame idea would somehow work for single account users, it'd still be bypassed and mostly succeed in only making the forums a lot more confusing.

Well make it so you gain trust the most you post/the longer time you post without getting banned.

For instance day one you can only post ten or so times, day two about twelve, you use all of day two's posts and not get banned about sixteen and so on.

The other thing is multi-accounters already exist, now you'll just make it so they'll not only get banned but they can only spam a certain threashold a day, limiting their capabilities.

Find me anywhere with Pogo947

I understand threads but not posts. I have commented in one thread easily 10 times. Putting thought into every one. So, No.

Expressing my strong liberal views without shame. Favorite quotes below:

"One starts to live when he can live outside himself."

This kind of discourages any prolonged discussion though...I'm against it.

This website would die out quick as hell if this were implemented. People wouldn't tolerate a post limit, and I'd expect many users to jut give up on the site completely just for the fact they're limited.

This site is slow enough as it is these days, there is no reason we need this.

The Risk Is Worth The Reward.
Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

I dunno man, I don't really see th need to a post limit. Def not while bungie has gone dark lol, things are already slow enough as is.

  • 01.06.2012 2:54 PM PDT

20 is a bit low. One at 50 is perfect. As long as it didnt apply to private groups.

Just to put a splash of cold water on this thread...

This is a terrible idea. Even the 7 thread limit is something I dislike, and only exists because there was no alternative.

Think about the problem you're trying to solve for a moment. Is the problem the quantity of posts? No. Your problem is the contents of posts and the people who post about things you don't care about.

When approaching a problem, always make sure your solution targets the actual problem and not the symptoms of the problem.

I think what Telec means is that some people should not be allowed to post that much on the mains. Amirite? The answer is yes, yes I am. I do like the idea of a post limit. Some people, who posted in this thread for instance, were around 100 PPD. And it was all crap and one liner posts too.

  • 01.06.2012 3:09 PM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Well then report it to a mod if people are abusing the rely button and they will be banned. You shouldn't limit people like that.

lolwat? No where did I mention ever people abusing the report button. And why would I whine and cry to the mods? I'm just saying I like the idea of post limitations.

I said "reply", not report. as for "crying to the mods", I think people should USE the report button or PM mods if they encounter people breaking the rules. I do not like post limitations.

Theme Builder 4.1 is out for Bungie.net!

Theme Builders

No thanks. My posting habits can range from 1 post a day to 50. Not because I'm spamming, just because I find something particularly interesting that day. Posting limits are a bad idea.

You would basically be restricting access to the forums.

What about when Bungie announces a new game? Now you can only post 20 time, and then it's over. Time to walk away.

If this was the case, I would personally leave.

Would this leave your status as Mod open? I want to be a mod and would happily take your position. :)

But seriously, I think this is the worst idea I've seen on the forums since the "Halo Reach 2" idea.

Short game, it'd probably only be a cinematic of the burning helmet.

  • 01.06.2012 3:41 PM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

No, just no. Awful idea.

Edit: Achronos' point sums up the massive failure in which your idea is, OP.

I'm going with no. I'd be happy with a lower max thread per day, but that's only because I'm sick of seeing trolls post the same thing slightly tweaked over and over again.
