I miss Halo. Maybe Halo 4 will change that.

Edit: Lol nope

Jesus Christ has been displaying remarkable reticence recently, so I'm going to assume that he isn't going to answer your question. Possibly a bit presumptuous of me, but I will try to answer in his stead:

Well, I wander through places, and I see redundant posts everywhere. People who post to tell us to report and move on, people who post simply to quote another person without adding anything, people who post mindless memes that add nothing.

Increasing the value of each post will add incentive to make it mean something, rather than wasting it on "hey OP, I'm clicking on the link and it isn't working".

So you're bugged by the amount of poor posts in an off topic forum? I honestly just flick past the poor comments such as mass quoting and memes. You should do the same. A post limit would kill this site, especially considering how many users sit with Bnet open all day and easily pass 50 posts.

Just to put a splash of cold water on this thread...

This is a terrible idea. Even the 7 thread limit is something I dislike, and only exists because there was no alternative.

Think about the problem you're trying to solve for a moment. Is the problem the quantity of posts? No. Your problem is the contents of posts and the people who post about things you don't care about.

When approaching a problem, always make sure your solution targets the actual problem and not the symptoms of the problem.
Exactly! Thanks for saying it smarter than me.

Furry At Heart,
Furry Forever óÓÒò

Supreme mastery therefore, is not to be victorious in all your battles; supreme excellence is to be victorious without fighting.

"Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies. "

I don't think that would be such a good idea. It would cut down on spam and all, but sometimes good discussions happen and they could easily take more than the 20 posts allotted per day.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

This is a terrible idea. It wouldn't fix anything, because it wouldn't actually stop people from posting. They'd just use alts to spam, and a main to make "on topic" replies. Bungie wants people to value their account, so they just use one. This would encourage exactly the opposite, for no real benefit.

I personally don't think anything is broken in that regard anyway. Some people post a lot....so? Why is it any of your business if they post a lot? So long as they're not actually spamming, then nothing bad is going on.

This reeks of a manufactured problem in order to justify the solution. I don't see how that is at all productive.

So, I wholly disagree with this, and almost all posting restrictions. There's no problem they can address, and no solution they'd give us that would be any benefit. Bungie will probably actually ask for people's opinions on this and that, especially when the new IP drops. Like they asked for our opinions in the Halo 3 BETA, and Reach BETA forums. Same with the Optimatch. Putting restrictions on kinds of accounts is fine, but generally restricting posting, for an absolutely arbitrary notion is asinine.

Do you know about time travel?

No. Just no. You are refering to the contents of posts by members who just post a lot of nonsense. Adding a post limit would not only make the site inactive, but it would make people angry and not visit the site to interact with people. Also, the whole idea on the more trust you have the more you can post thing is too a no from me. To me it sounds like a form of elitism which we do not need.

WALL OF SHAME-Posting stupidity since 2010

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Essentially, you want to kill posts that have no value to them.

What will happen:

There will be less space between valuable posts.

What won't happen anymore:

Lets face it, Bungie.net is known for its relatively lax posting style/atmosphere. While it feels like a silly reason to delay what could be to some people a decent change, this honestly is not the place to have a 100% serious discussion.

Since Bungie handed over the reins of Halo to 343i these forums have been plagued by inactivity and a lack of new ideas. All a post limit would do is further decrease activity on the forums, harming them.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

No way, I'm sorry but that is a horrible idea, it would completely ruin the site.

I can tell you, if that was implemented I would never come here again, and I love posting on this site.

Actually it would just ruin the chilled out attitude of the forum, and destroy it pretty much.

No to this, and no to the idea of a higher limit for people with higher titles.

Agreed, there are plenty of people without high titles who contribute greatly to bungie.net, i think the current system works fine, i just think the moderators need to be a little harsher on users who constantly make off topic or pointless remarks.

No. Not even that, mods should be less harsh on users for poking fun and having a good time. They should crack down on trolls and jerks, not innocent users who would rather have a little fun on the forums instead of making posts like a robot with no emotion or enjoyment in their posts.

Nah, I'd much rather have a block user ability.

This works too. If there is someone annoying then instead of seeing a limit of them, why not block them entirely?

No. Blocking is also a terrible idea. If I make posts, I don't want to get shunned and ignored because people blocked me out of disagreement. That is a terrible idea, if anything, the rules need to become more lenient, not more strict.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Why change what isn't broken?

A post limit would in turn limit the amount of discussion that one could have on the website.

They'd just use alts to spam, and a main to make "on topic" replies.

What's sad is that there is already a large number of people on this site who already use alts for doing just that :|

They should also distribute the post limits evenly across every forum here on Bnet. For example, you can only make like 3 or 4 posts per day per forum. That way they can keep all of the other forums active as well. Win-win.

I'm kidding. Having a post limit is just stupid. Why would you ever want to be limited? Just because there's a post limit doesn't mean people won't post stupid things. They'll just wind up spending less time on the forums, log onto a different account, or just post much less than before. Either way, activity will most likely die down.

How about you set a post limit on your own account?

Just post 20 per day and leave. Derp.

This has to be one of the dumbest ideas I have read in this forum, must be a troll thread. I know you said no elitism or w/e but I can't see any other reason for this, lol.

I was a finalist :P

Nope. You're basically stereotyping from a particular class of users on Bungie.net, and ruining it for people who do post for the benefit of discussion. It's definitely not worth it.

The problem is, you can't stop a user from submitting unnecessary posts by limiting the amount they can. Sure, it may reduce the amount seen on the forms, but it won't stop it.
