Subject: What is the best version for vanilla servers? (PC)

Hi all, as much as I love Halo PC it's becoming incredibly frustrating to try and find servers that aren't modded, 24/7 Rockets only or zombies. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what version has more vanilla gametypes (AR/Pistol/Snipers etc) instead of the above.

I play on version 1.09 currently and I do have version changer so if anyone could possibly recommend to me what version to play on, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Whichever version the CE 'Portable Edition' is. You know, the cracked pirate version that they like to pretend is legit.

Something smells fishy...

v1.09 has some good servers that have the gametype you're looking for.

On Halo PC, 1.04 is the alternative version. On Halo Custom Edition, 1.09 is the alternative. For Halo PC I normally just stick with 1.09, though.

It's what I used to do, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a regular game that isn't 24/7 Rockets or something of the sorts. I will look into 1.04 and hopefully they're playing some more normal gametypes. I despise rocket only servers...

Every time I get on the server list for any of the Halos for PC I become incredibly disappointed with the community... People always give Halo 2 Vista hell for this sort of thing, but Halo: Combat Evolved PC is just as bad.

How exactly does version changer work? When I didn't have the (pure vanilla) game updated, I couldn't play Multiplayer without that update. Isn't changing the version backwards like removing the updates? Or is it far more complex (or simpler) than I'm making it?

And I'm down to play any games, On PC or CE.

I know what you mean, it's really quite pathetic. You'd think a 9 year old game would be full of more mature players, unfortunately not...

The one i'm using requires you to patch Halo to 1.08 (download it from the net) and then put the version changer files into the game folder. It then bypasses the checking for updates (it will still show it is but won't actually check) and then allows you to play. You simply open console, type in version X.XX and it will trick the game into thinking you're running that version of the patch, thus letting you play on any version of the game. It's really convenient if you wish to have access to all kinds of things, like fixing Halo's FOV to 90 (the main reason i use it as the one i have doesnt work with 1.09). That, and in my case again, will allow me to play on other versions if 1.09 is filled with Rocket noobs...
