Because H2V was a colossal failure and they don't want to repeat that.
it's not the game which is a failure but the late date it was released. it could have done so much better if it was released in 2005
No. It was the game that failed. If you want further proof you can go to see how many players there are on Halo: Combat Evolved PC compared to Xbox.

You're not used to PC games (As from what I can tell) so you can't really understand why this game failed us. We hold our games to a higher standard when it comes to features and compatibility. We will play the older game if the older game runs, on the whole, better than the newer game.

While the porting job by Gearbox wasn't as great as any of us really hoped, the one done by Hired Gun was absolutely terrible. All it did was show that Microsoft has no business in developing PC games.

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

In case you can't fully grasp what Syx said, I'll lay it out for you in simpler terms: If a PC game designed to have a large multiplayer base never breaks 200 players online at any given time after its release, it's a failure.

im a PC gamer not a console one really.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Halo: Combat Evolved originally designed for the PC, but when trouble came along Microsoft ended up buying the rights and whatnot so it could be the flag-ship game for the Xbox and giant controllers?

I mean, seriously, who thought those controllers were a good idea?

It was, and back in the day it was designed for Mac's. That, and Halo was a completely different game then how it is now. You can see for yourself here

ok since so many people like the first halo for PC and still do better than halo 2 do you think there should be halo ce anniversary for PC?

In it's current form it would not happen. We don't have Reach which CEA uses for the multiplayer. That and I'm not so sure how it would fare on PC, we already have Halo PC/Custom edition. I'd more like to see the netcode fixed but we can dream.

My own opinion of course.

Au contraire, I would love to see PC get HCEA. Especially if the multiplayer received the same love the campaign got.

It'd make all the Xbox kiddies jealous, too.

Also Zetren, you better not be a conspiracy theorist. I thought you were smarter than that.

If the MP did get remade in it's entirety, I would be happy to purchase it on PC. I can't warrant buying just a single player game that I've already got with online multiplayer. And as far as i know, if they ported CEA as it is, they'd need to do the Reach Engine too which i think is unlikely.

Either way, I don't care for CEA on PC at the moment.

ok, if you folks say so. i wasn't trying to start a debate or anything, just quoting why i though H2V wasnt popular.
since alot of you dont like the porting job done for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, could you tell me why?
i thought both games where fine

Halo PC was fine in my opinion, the only faults i had with it were the poor netcode and lack of co-op but that's just me.

Halo 2 Vista on the other hand...it was poorly optimised, lacked essential features, the modding tools were worse than HCE and even it's Xbox counterpart, powerful rigs struggled with it sometimes, it took Shock120 to incorporate co-op into the game, GFWL Errors, the massive aim assist advantage that using a controller gave you made using an m+k pointless on LIVE, dedicated servers weren't great compared to Halo PC, server browser was poor, 5 CD key install limit to enhance gameplay...It just wasn't a great PC game.

Although I did have fun for nostalgia reasons and the occasional multiplayer game or Live co-op, it just was poorly ported by Hired Gun. It had potential and as I said in another post, Halo PC shows that a Halo game could work on PC...but they dropped the ball with Halo 2 sadly.

Halo PC/CE yes. Alot more players than H2V's almighty 25-75 players. I think you're looking at at least a couple of hundred to a thousand players.

It was designed for Macs and PCs with a heavy marketing campaign towards the Mac side.

Ah, I was unaware it was for PC also, I assumed it was just a Mac game at the time. Thanks for the heads up.

would you folks consider Halo: Combat Evolved for PC a success, i certainly would seeing as it still has a considerable population 9 years after it's release. it's a shame H2V wasn't successful, 2 is my favourite game in the series so far

It was definitely a success. It sold a lot more than most people think. Apparently it even had the number one spot in January 2004 on xfire.

Works for me. You must be having a problem :P

  • 01.08.2012 3:31 PM PDT

you could have a bad connection and you may have to wait a while for the servers to come up or you cant connect to the multiplayer

Can confirm I've had no issues, it works fine. Must be your end or a bug (no surprises there)
