I enjoy halo for it's story and when I am in the mood, its gameplay. Reach was significantly worse then I expected but was still a great game (minus the european hitscan fiasco). I am sitting on a two mile wide fence on the subject of halo 4. Most of the things I like a technical aspects though and not story or game play. Plus I am slightly mad they took my elites from MP.

Wow SM would win hands down

@ whoever said space marines suck at guerilla warefare. I am only going to point you to the astral claws and their rebellious bretheren

17 years you say? Against a fleet where frigates aren't even counted to the threat status while still being able to cripple ODP's and battle barges (reference: the Battle of the Fang) and said same frigates that can launch 100 Viral bombarment shells a minute from each side? Easily loyalist Astral claws would decimate spartans.

And for fast attack warfare I need only look to the white scars, before the Horus Heresy a saying came about that goes a little like this:

"If some unlucky bastard draws the eye of the great Khan, whether he be days or years away, they are dead. They just haven't received the vox signal yet..."

as stated at the begining of this post Adeptus Astartes would win, hands down.

Are you talking about Grimaldus getting the cathedral dropped on em?

I am referencing the Chapter's Due when Ventris and co. track Honsou down to a cathedral. Honsou is cornered and to escape he detonates explosives placed around the cathedral. The Cathedral collapses, Honsou escapes, but everyone else survives.

Am I the only one who thinks Dr. Halsey is a b****?????

oh i was talking about helsreach when chaplin grimaldus is the last black templar left to hold off the ork invasion and he ends up with a cathedral on top of him. funny how that seems to happen to space marines all the time. I havnt read chapters due yet, i just finished the ultramarine omnibus..

Waypoint Moderators aren't really Moderators, just power hungry and its goal is defend their beloved Halo at all costs. (Meaning that they wank Halo too much.)

BS Angel is alleged foe so, be wary of Waypoint and its moderators! Do not attempt to move to Waypoint. Enter your own risk.

*WARNING* IT IS MY OPINION.

OP, you gotta be retarded or just stupid.

Space Marines easily curbstomps the Spartans. As I love Halo so much but I know well enough that Warhammer 40k is extremely overpowered. Space Marines uses rifles or pistols that is basically .75 caliber! Spartans wouldn't last a mere second against a single Space Marine. In other words, Space Marine utterly outclasses every aspect of Spartan's skills.

There is mentions in the various books where Space Marines killing thousands of orks in matter of minutes. Perhaps Mach can help me by referencing to a specific book where it said that a three hundred Space Marines killed a entire hundred thousand orks.

Award for you.

I knew it was Vladimir before I even clicked on the link. None the less, here is another example showcasing the endurance of a Marine.

Our Marine Squad is exploring a mineshaft. They split into three groups of two to cover all the ground. Plague Marines attack, killing four but before they can get to the last two charges around the shaft detonate. Several hundred meters of rock fall atop the marines. The Marine is now trapped under several hundred tons of rock and is unable to move. Starting with moving his fingers, he proceeds to dig his way out of the mineshaft over the course of several days. He later goes on to kill dozens of Dark Eldar, several Plague Marines, dozens of the Lost and the Damned, hundreds of zombies, and a Sorcerer. During the battle with the witch he has a full clip from a bolt pistol emptied point blank into his chest and destroying one of his hearts. He got better.

Another example is Rynn's World. Or Battle of the Fang. Or the Badab war. Or the defense of Macragge. Or the Damocales Crusade.

I think Space Marines would win. They are actually very agile, not slow in their Power Armor. Then on top of that their armor is stronger than a Spartans.

"None may stand against Space Marines!"

Love the badassness of some space marines.

How many shots could a Spartan shield take from a bolter?

I would estimate that a Space Marine bolter is about the same caliber, if not greater, than a modern shotgun shell and cartridge. So, imagine in Halo getting shot by an automatic shotgun. And since we are considering shotgun slugs, then pellet spread is nonexistent. I would say that a bolter shell is like a shotgun shell that had a slug as well as shot that would exploded into a person's body after the slug's initial impact.

.75 caliber if you are wondering. Adamantium tip, diamond is occasionally used instead, and the explosive payload can be swapped out for other chemicals to produce a different effect. Inferno bolts, for example, work exactly as you might expect.

Spartans get their gene modifications 2/3's through their training and the training is long as well. ;)

I think that the marines at their size will have some disadvantages that lead to the Spartans winning.
It'd be a crazy fight.

I think it is not good to compare betn them bcoz spartans are biologically augmented. They are selected upon there genes from the whole UNSC occupied space. On other hand space marines hav no special internal abilities. They are trained good as hell and they are frontiers soldiers so if they both clashes definetly Spartans will win and they also have good communication skill...

I must correct you. Marines have a massive amount of genetic modifiers including a secondary heart, a third lung, a gland that lets them spit acid, another organ that allows them to eats combatant's brains and absorb their memories, another that lets them function without any rest, another that lets them enter a coma-like state to protect themselves, and many more.

...With the sacrament of blood, We journey into the devine beyond...

Spartans all the way! They are gentically and physically stronger. They have more fighting spirit and are generally better. Its no excuse saying space marines are larger because there are multiple sizes of spartans and they usually never have a problem taking down larger foes. The real contest here is The covenant vs the multiple alien races on Warhammer 40,000k. Peace out!

And the prize for the most unresearched post goes to you, my friend.

Allow me to piece by piece destroy your argument:

Space marine's armour utilises muscle coil/fibres to augment a space marine's already gigantic strength. Since Space Marines are bigger than spartans, this is a point to 40k.

Space marines have better genetics. Most Spartans fail the augmentations, meanwhile space marines are only recruited from places where mere survival is very difficult and are then implanted with a gene seed, which is a fragment of the same DNA harboured by the Primarchs, who are some of the best fighters ever seen in the galaxy.

Spartans might be able to kill larger enemies (but they wouldn't get through a SM's armour) however SM's can do that too, and spartans are smaller, weaker, and not trained as well, not to mention lacking as many abilities.

Much as I appreciate SPEZZ MUHREENS, I'm giving my opinion over to the Spartans. What I'm looking at is there are a good many space marine chapters that specialise. Kraven Shrike leads specialised fast-attack, Ultramarines for more tactical warfare, etc. Spartans have better generalised training, in my eyes, as well as benefits of just plain being smaller.

Size: Space marines are larger, yes, and some of you have posted that as a point for them. Automatically stronger, etc. But I'd hazard to say that it's hard to properly infiltrate a city when you're an eight to nine foot supersoldier. Spartans vary around seven feet which, though abnormal, would allow them much better opportunities at surveillance, and general cloak and daggery. The obvious retort is "Contact the Vindicare Temple", but once again, this is versus a Space Marine, not "Spartan vs every possible unit of the Imperium of Man" so it's disregarded. Make this fight one in a heavily populated city, and the Spartan has a rather large advantage, whereas in an arena-like setting a SM would probably win.

That's my main contention for now, I'll put more in when more replies have been garnered. And on that note, we need more parameters for where/when/how the battle would be taking place.

Intuitively, what you say about a Space Marine infiltrating a city makes sense, but somehow, the Alpha Legion of Chaos Space Marines seems to do it all the time (and I'm not just talking about the cultists)

The Alpha Legion can and has infiltrated many, many cities. Their whole battle plan is misdirection and unconventional warfare. Plus, the armor adds a bit to Space Marine's height. While they are still abnormally tall there are plenty of other tall people. I can name several characters who are easily pushing 7 feet (Cain, Semper, and Kyogon).

In a battle between a Space Marine and a Spartan, I think a warp portal would open up and they would both get killed by Chaos Space Marines.
