I noticed that too.

If I did then I wouldn't be posting because my title seems to only go up after long absences...

I was heroic not so long ago.

OT: I'd be willing to wager that, with the exception of people who only visit the site occasionally, everyone cares about their member status. It is a visual representation of your presence in the community and does signify the merit of your input to a discussion, whether or not you're just messing around.

To attain the higher titles, you have to hang around for a while. It shows that you're dedicated to engaging with the community and that you know how things are done. Mods are no exception either.

We all want to be part of something. It's part of the human condition, so don't try to fool anyone with an apathetic response :P

I want to know, however, if you post to intentionally rank-up your title.

Speaking of chuckles, let's all lol at IonicPaul, who makes friends with bugs to make up for his lack of human contact.

It's definitely not the reason I stay, but it's some complementary motivation for sure.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

I don't look at or care about mine, or anyone else's. So no, I don't make any effort to attempt to manipulate it, unless you count my usage of Coup to make my title bar, title and text color go away.

  • 01.06.2012 4:14 PM PDT

lolno, I post because I feel like it. The fact that other people do for a title is why we can't have nice things.

I enjoy the discussion and the knowledge that my member title progresses as a bonus.

It's complicated. Did you get what I'm saying?
That makes sense. In that light, I do enjoy ranking up.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Kind of depends on how you look at it...

I intentionally post and seldom go against the rules. A ban is only a vacation to clear the head, and enforce that all that is really asked of us here is to treat each other like humans. Yet, I really don't care at all what color hat I'm wearing.

In a round-about way, I suppose you could say I intentionally try to rank up. . . I guess.

Note: It isn't a "rank" it's just a title.

But it is a rank. If it separates or catergorises based on seniority or input/worth, then it is ranking.

Why else would people make such a fuss about Keeping or removing member titles? They obviously mean something to the individual.

With out assuming too much, I'm sure there would be newer members who don't have a title who look up to the members with all the pretty colours and cool names.

I like it :) And it's a good point too.

But it doesn't answer my question :D

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Never have, never will. I don't think I'll ever get a title, to be honest. I am banned and warned far too much.

You primarily mistake the titles for being based on seniority or input/worth.

Users make a fuss about them (to put simply) because they can.

Of course people will intentionally try to rank up (in game and with titles) as it gives a sense of competition! Isn't that the point of a ranked system, so you can have bragging rights over other players?

Not really. I jus post away and figured it is just a matter of time more so then if I post X amount a day I will reach this rank.

Not really, no. I mostly lurk anyway.

There is no mistake. You achieve a title by performing certain action in the community and every time you log on, some people do it, some people don't. The people who do it are rewarded with pretty colours and groovy names, the people who don't do not 'advance' so to speak.

There is a clear distinction between a Mod, a Mythic and a normal member. It does denote seniority and status.

If you don't prefer the term 'rank' please suggest another word :)

I'm attempting to be objective with the point that I am making.

And I'm allowed to change my opinion, as is everyone else. Nothing is black and white, friend, especially when you add time as a factor.

Indeed, a title is just words on a screen. To some people it means something, to others, it doesn't, but I'd be lying if I said I don't care about my title, end of story.

To cover my crossing of words with you specifically:

Titles do denote rank to some description, the worth of that rank is ultimately determined by the individual.

Some people do take it more seriously than others, even to the point where they will post as much as they can in an effort to hasten the process of achieving a higher title.

To me, a persons rank tells me something about them, but it doesn't make them the apex of the Bungie Community. Mods and Mythics can say some pretty dumb stuff too.

I do not post to achieve a higher title, nor do I give a -blam!- about my title. But I am getting annoyed with all these title threads.

Nah. I just post because I actually want to do so for its sake, not for a title.
