I'm noticing that those of you who aren't joking around [Bloody Mythics and Mods :D] are implying that titles hold little value in the grand scheme of things, and that attempting to rank up through increased post count is an exercise in pointlessness, at least for the most part.
I can appreciate that outcome :)
I've been reading a few of these threads about titles and their worth and impact on members and I too feel that people really miss the point of titles.
I like my title. I don't think my life would end without it, but it's nice to have some recognition of my time spent on this site.
While I stand by my analogy of titles serving as a form of rank to at least some extent, I feel a better example might be a classroom student sticker chart, anyone remember those things?
Effectively, the amount of stickers attached to your name shows the sort of impact you've had in the classroom whereby a positive impact is accompanied by more stickers for you.
You might wonder where lower ranking members stand in all of this, and I'd say that they need to continue being positive members in the community, listen to advice from people who know what they're on about and all being well, they will increase their bounty of gold stars and smiley faces :D
Ultimately, this thread ties into a plethora of other discussions about this subject, and whether good or bad, we can all stand to be enlightened, so discussion isn't a bad thing at all, so long as it's conducted appropriately.
This thread, all analogies and one liners aside, asked what people really thought about titles, and whether or not you realised it, you all answered that question for yourselves.
Take from it what you will :)
