Subject: what's a good dmr k/d

In the inevitable fights discussing whether a player is "good" or "bad" I hear dmr kd brought up a lot. So what is a respectable dmr kd?

  • 01.06.2012 7:32 PM PDT

I'm gonna ballpark it at above 1.5.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

Whatever gets you the highest win/lose. Halo's so composed of "micro-objectives" like map control that individual K/D isn't 100% valuable as a tool for determining player skill.

Specific weapon K/D ratios rarely mean anything. They mostly depend on playlists played and what roll you play on your team.

On average though, given how terrible the trueskill matching is, 2.5-3.0 is somewhat decent.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Depends what playlist.
At least a 2-3 in anything but MLG.

Boltshot = mini shotgun

Lol DMR K/D. I stopped caring about my DMR stats when I started using the CE magnum.

Mediocre Backpacker
56% W\L
2.86 k\d
3.18 DMR
7.29 God Magnum
7.79 Sniper
5.34 Needle Rifle

Anything above mine. Its abysmal, considering everything.

Looking to hook up with some competent players! Please PM me if you want a decent team mate, looking to learn from good players and impart what I know to the team too. Im sick of going 'randy' and getting betrayed for the sniper etc.. and having to put up with BK team mates

my DMR KD is the same as my actual KD LoL

Your DMR k/d is probably going to be lower than some other weapons simply because it's used more often by many players.

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

People here talk about weapon K/Ds?

Since when?

K/D is how many you kill to how many times you die but you also have to realize...has the player been playing for an unreasonable amount of time? does he have a life? is he 40 years old.....over weight and lives in his moms basement? ....all those also apply so really K/D is just for show

  • 01.06.2012 9:29 PM PDT

*scratches nuts*

2.0+ for anything K/D related or you're bad

Mine's 2.52. That seems pretty good...

  • 01.06.2012 10:59 PM PDT

Mines is a 2.35, pretty decent. and I go to college and passing with A/B. I dont think that you got to be fat, 40, and living in moms basement to have a decent K/D

A good -better than average- kill to death rate would obviously be above one, because one is the average of all kill death rates (excluding suicides, which would probably make the average kill death rate somewhere below one, but only further reinforce that anything above one is a good kill to death rate).

Keep in mind that kill to death rate isn't a reliable way to determine the players contribution to the battle ("skill"), because he or she could contribute in many ways you aren't taking into account, such as assist kills (taking the primary assault or "agro"), supplying weapons (being considerate, not hogging the power weapons), piloting vehicles, collecting flags (or any important objective based roles) and so on.

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Reach host ranking algorithm: (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100
where a > b = d > c

You know we're just talking about the DMR, not your overall K/D, right?

At any rate, the average K/D ratio is certainly higher than one. Guests generally go disproportionately negative, but their ratio is not recorded in the population, so they serve to pad the K/D of other accounts.

Mathematically the average K/D ratio need not equal one, either. Spread must be zero (notwithstanding suicides, as you mentioned, which will make the global spread negative), but the average ratio can easily be skewed. As an extreme example, imagine a 1v1 where the winner goes 15 for 3. Spread is zero (+12 + -12 = 0), but the ratios are 5.00 vs 0.2 (rounded). The average K/D here is 2.6. Players doing well weight the average more than players doing poorly. I don't know what the average K/D ratio is, but I'd hazard a guess it's around 1.2 or so.

As a slightly more indepth example, you can examine any game in your game history. Here is the last game I played. The average K/D ratio in that game was 1.78 (assuming I did the math right).
