Subject: IT MIGHT BE FRED, NOT CHIEF!!

I'm only human. So are you...

Alright, I know this sounds crazy, but I think I can explain why I think that is one of the other spartans.

Remember how in First Strike, the other Spartans were with Dr. Hasley and getting new weapons? Well, Hasley probably hooked them up with Mark VIs, since she works within that corporation. Another reason is, why is that spartan wondering around in the desert, looking very lost, with an ASSAULT rifle? Probably because he ran out of ammo for his Battle Rifle which he picked up from Hasley, and now he/she pulled out the AR they had from before. The chief wouldn't be walking around in the desert liek that for no reason.
Also, not how the spartan just sits there and stares at the Ark. Obviously, that spartan doesn't know what that is or what it does. The Chief KNOWS that the Ark, if activated, would destroy all life. The chief would probably have tried to do something. This spartan might be some one else.

Dude, please read, bungie said its the Chief.

  • 05.12.2006 1:41 PM PDT

We are the Halo Generation.

Yes. It's already been confirmed as the Chief.

First of all... read the storyboards.

Then, read this:Asked about the battered state of the Chief's armor, Marcus ventured, "The Chief is shown as warrior who has seen horrific battle – and it shows. The Earth is dry, barren, ravaged by the Covenant."

Grim stuff, but then things were grim at the end of Halo 2 when we left the Chief and the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance. A cliffhanger about which we received over twenty emails... cough.

The didnt say it wasn't Fred. Not to mention, in the first chapter of First Strike, the marines call Fred "Chief".

BTW just playing devil's advocate. Its Master Cheif dammit.

Its not another spartan. There are no other spartans. Its the truth. The books don't fit with the game. I could give you a ton of examples, but I've done that too many times. Just know that it isn't nearly the same storyline. That's why there weren't any other Spartans in Halo 2. That's why the Chief is still the last one. The game is the final authority on the story line, not the book.

Yes and no about the books part, because in book 2 The Flood, is about the first Game Halo:CE. So i wouldn't say anything about that yet till you've played the whole game of Halo 3 or work for bungie. Why, because they haven't said anything bad or good about the books besides the author writting another.

I understand that, I'm simply stating that people are arguing with points and using the books as solid proof, which is stupid. First Strike doesn't fit at all with Halo 2. That's the only point I'm making. don't use the books as proof. And, think, why would Bungie use a different character in the announcement trailer? Its the Chief, he's iconic, he has to be in the announcement trailer.

Exactly, and he never said anything about them being in the game later, we will never know till the game comes out, or bungie says otherwise.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

At the end of the "We're Back" News announcment it says that it's not another Spartan, and in the "Halo 3 Announce" News, it says it's the Master Chief.

Stop. Think. Post.

Not trying to get under your skin but the Halo novels were based on the the game, Bungie might have the thought but probably no entension to follow the story line from the book. As you can see in the first halo it was clearly stated that Master Cheif was the last spartan. Then again I could very well be wrong, but either way Bungie has control of what happens...

If my calculations are correct, then Slinky+Escalator = INFINITE FUN!

Home is were the Hog is.

Um.. The books ARE in total agreement with the game. There's not conflict.

And yeah, cleary "the Chief" means John 117, not some other Spartan.

That was what was believed, until he returned to Reach and heard a signal from the other Spartans...

LMAO! No conflict. That's why there are suddenly no Spartans in Halo 2. In Halo 2, teh covenant stumble across earth. That's why they don't destroy it, because they didn't know it was earth, they thought it was just a forerunner area. In First Strike, the covenant know exactly where earth is and they are planning on an attack. I'll probably post a really extensive comparison somteimt, but for now, that should totally be enough to tell you that the books are not in total agreement, in the least.

You do realize that the story for the books is written by Nuyland but he talks with Staten and Bungie regarding how it fits in with the story. And the fact that both Bungie and MS put their names on the books means its official cannon....plus check out halo.bungie.org and look at the timelines....the books do fit.
