Subject: Elitism

Elitism has always existed since the dawn of mankind. If it isn't titles, it'll be something else like join dates or crap like "pfffft, i was a fan of bungie before halo".

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

Or even service record... I pray it never comes to this.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

What's your motive for posting this? Are you proposing a change? Are you stating that it happens and we should merely see that it does?

<On elitism generally>

This site will have it, especially as long as its authoritarian leadership is in tact.

What is it you want?

Seriously? I'm pretty sure almost all of us just have fun with the titles, and nothing more.

Compared to other sites, Bungie.net has been quite "alive".

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Elitism

Where did it start? How did it begin? Surely there has to be some explanation as to where all this "title hoarding" took place. Was it the initial placement of these on our account? Just because someone says something, we automatically assume it's that way because of the color of their bar.

It's sad how some people literally go through these forums and won't even notice or respond to other users posts simply because of their color. I think it degrades from the conversation and makes it a less friendly experience. I think there should be harsher penalties for users that express this.

I remember as a child how I would show off my work at the fair grounds and you would win a prize. At the end of the day everyone that got a blue ribbon (1st place) would meet for a special meeting. Those kids went into a drawing to receive a $50 prize. Even though there was a cool prize for their efforts, many of those children were bickering and making fun of the other ones simply because they didn't get a blue ribbon.

Is this natural in our world as humans to think of something prestigious above others? Do we enjoy holding our high titles heavy above others? Maybe it's just an internet thing. How can we possibly understand each other and act as a community if we're constantly judging each other simple because of our fun little hats?

We're the community. For regulars that post in this forum, they know what I'm talking about. In less than a year, Bungie.net is more than likely going to get a plethora of new members. Who are they to look up to for guidance? We're the future of the bungie.net community and we should act as one. I am all for everyone working together and sharing that blue ribbon. Can we please come together and be a community guys?

Isn't that what our blue banner is for, right at the top of this forum? We're all winners. Lets have some fun.

Thank you.
If you look through history, you will know this is not new. Other people than you have complained about it, that's what practically started the russian revolutions.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Bungie.net is probably one of the MOST active video game dev forums on the internet. The Flood can make like 30+ pages of topics in a day!

2 years? so what? I would rather Bungie take all the time they need instead of rushing a game to make money like other devs. I think Bungie is one of the few game devs left that treat video games as an "art". Surre they want money, that is the point of a company, but they want to make sure they do it right.

I honestly, very very rarely see a Mythic or Legendary member flaunt, brag, or put another member down simply because he or she is a higher rank

Obviously a "Member" would post about this.

Hmmm

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

If you spent less time over evaluating people and took the time to read through threads, you would realize EDOET is one of those individuals who uses sarcasm to bring about his point in a thread based on something dumb. His point was validated.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

Elitism was a bigger problem even before we had member bars. Heck when I originally supported the idea that was everyone's primary argument against it. "It will promote elitism" they all said...

[link to thread] - albeit, I was much more immature then.

Our destiny is not frightful because it is unreal, it is frightful because it is irreversible and iron-clad. Time is the substance I am made of. Time is a river which sweeps me along, but I am the river. It is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger. It is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.

We are all the same.

Hard is good.

It's not elitism, you just don't get how the forums work yet.

Most of the time the higher "ranking" member has a more credible view on anything website related, and go ahead, link me an exception, but the long running average correlation of who knows more against what title they have will be pretty strong.

You don't have to have a higher title to integrate easily into the community, you just need to be able to view the title system in the same way as everyone else. Sure, at the end of the day we would all prefer to keep our titles, but inside none of us really care. If you have made a big enough impression then you don't need to have a fancy title for people to get to know who you are.

...

And why the hell is it that only the people from #bungienet have anything funny to say in this thread?

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

This happens? Where? Are you sure you aren't just reading into coincidences? I don't think I know anyone who feels the same as you about this. Anyone can make a valid point, title doesn't matter.

  • 01.08.2012 4:28 PM PDT

Another thread about titles? Really, is there nothing else to talk about? The titles are nothing, I don't visit bungie.net so that I can quote and laugh at "Members" I visit bungie.net for the groups, for the laughs, and for the memories but these are now too few.

Most Mythics, Legendary's and Heroic's I see post try to help out others when they have a question ect and from MY experience its the "Members" who pick on the people with the titles because they are jealous or for what ever reason.

Sure there are the odd few who are elitist but thats it. If you see the odd few people then tell a ninja if it bothers you that much but people need to overcome these silly little things and enjoy what there is.

After all it's just the internet, if people are getting steamed up over nothing then they've another thing coming.

I don't often have a rant but i'm sick of people posting about how elitist everyone is and that the titles are unfair.

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

I'm probably going to have to spend the next few months informing everybody that I'm better than them because, at the moment, my title bar isn't doing it for me.

  • 01.09.2012 2:16 AM PDT

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

This is dumb.

No one's going to be happy. Find out what makes you happy and try to work for it. I wanted a blue bar on my name, so I was a good little boy and waited for it.

Find out what you want and go after it. Don't complain so that it's given to you. This is almost worse than "I want Recon" threads...
