Subject: New Gametype: Core Slayer

Core Slayer is a Slayer gametype that mixes in elements of Assault and Capture the Flag. Each team spawns with a Power Core in their base. This core can be carried and inserted into specific "interactive map elements" (IME). These IME can be anything that can be powered on such as shield doors, light bridges, grav lifts, man cannons, teleporters, turrets, and more. After the Power Core is inserted into an IME it will function for a set period of time after which it will be consumed and the IME will power down. The spent Power Core will respawn back in your base, after a set time, after it has been consumed. The act of carrying a core from your base to an area is like Assault while the act of stealing the enemy team's respawned core is like Capture the Flag. The game is Slayer so it can be played without the use of Power Cores but they can turn the tide of a battle with their map altering properties.

Thoughts?

Everybody wants some.

Sounds like a decent gametype, but I don't know how it could actually be implemented into the game code-wise.

At first the idea was that every enemy would drop a small Power Core upon expiring and all the different IME would have different "cost of cores" (ie 3,5,7) but that idea was ultimately scrapped for a simpler idea rather than an extended version of Headhunter.

This is really clever thinking. I miss the maps that used to have hazzards such as the one on halo 2 where the train powered through the map every so many minuites.

  • 01.08.2012 1:35 PM PDT

This actually sounds pretty awesome.

That's a pretty cool idea.

Why don't you work for 343?

Always up for REACH customs!

My greatest hope for Halo 4's Forge is that it has interactive elements like switches and moving parts.

Ooh, I love those people, the ones who decide to throw everything and the kitchen sink at you, as if an M16 does anything to a T-90. Oh, MLG player with noobtube instead? Congrats! You blew off one of my ablative plates!

Gun, meet Bad Guy.
Bad Guy, this is Gun.

What would I get for taking the enemies core though? From the OP, it seems as if most of the functions the core tend to be rather useless in Slayer situations. If you could work it to make more sense (Offensive purpose) it would seem more plausible.

I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

Sounds a bit like invasion + ctf + Assualt.

Nice idea tho.

Just do it

Bring it up on 343i forums, it might not do much but you can try.

Love playing custom games?

Well come join Customs Evolved

We are group dedicated to playing custom games, map testing, game nights, etc. Anyone is welcomed to join, and we hope to have as much fun as possible!

The thing is, with how each team can use the core, and the opposing team needs to capture it. How does the enemy team capture the core if its being used? What if the one team constantly uses the core so that the enemies can't get their hands on it?

Or is there something I'm missing?

Since the Power Core spawns in your base, the weakest IME would be located very close to your base, like a shield door that protects a certain spawn zone. The more powerful IME would be centrally located to allow both teams equal chance of claiming it. By stealing the enemy team's Power Core you are not only taking away their ability to use it but you are giving your team two IME to use. For example you could have a shield door protecting your spawn zone (at your base, more defensive) as well as a centrally located Gauss Turret for an offensive advantage. Its like Map Control 2.0.

Just do it

How about in the middle of the map there is a neutral core, inside a forunner spire, and on one side of the map is spartan spawn and the other, elite spawn. UNSC has a pelican and covenant has a phantom. Like invasion with a neutral core that resets after a while. In a map as big as the forge world canyon. And the shield doors have timers, you know, to make it fair.

Just throwing out ideas.........

You never NEED to steal the enemy team's core. It is akin to stealing the enemy team's Sniper Rifle. By taking it you are not only preventing them from using it but giving your team an additional advantage.

The core cannot be constantly used. It can be inserted into one specific IME which it will power for a certain time. After the time runs out the IME will power down. This starts a respawn timer that spawns a new core in you're base. The only way you could truely prevent the enemy team from taking your core is to hold onto it and never use it which defeats the purpose of Power Cores entirely which is to modify the map to your advantage. Once a core is inserted into an IME it cannot be removed.

Yes there could be many different core setups. One in each base, one in each base and one centrally located, one centrally located, three centrally located, et cetera.

Crazy Core could have cores that randomly spawn around the map.

If we are talking strictly about Neutral Core (one centelly located core) then instead of having the weak IME by your base and the powerful IME in the center of the map it would be the opposite. To get the powerful IME powered on you would have to retrieve the neutral core and bring it back to your base, which takes the longest, but gives the greatest benefit.

I really, really think you should push this idea.
And there could be multiple gametypes. Neutral core. (Maybe with a mix of objectives too?) Capture the flag core?

In actuality, this is my gamertag, yes, but for online, I use my family's tag, which is the bungie name I put, Realist021.

Here.

Honestly? This is pretty clever. I support it. I'd be more than happy to play a gametype like this.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

Brilliant! Although, can you steal the enemy power core and use it on your own team's IME? Can you or the enemy take either core out of a IME while it is in use and put it something else?
