If thought so, this should be a sticky.
So it's going to take me a bit to compile all the information that I can about this. Mainly because I have to upload pictures from the film, documentation from Bungie, and documentation from the person who directed the audio for the teaser.
This topic contains information pertaining to:
-Master Chief in the trailer
-Cortana's garbled message
-Communication lights and,
-Aliens: Friend or foe?
First thing to tackle: "The guy in the video isn't Master Chief!!!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes he is. Even if you want to make theories based on what you've seen and what you think you know from the Halo books, at this point it really doesn't matter. There are several references to the master chief being in this teaser. Here are some quotes found from the official release of the teaser
-"In fact, it's the stuff it (the trailer) doesn't contain that gives it a strange kind of context. You can see how detailed the Chief is, but that detail applies to our other, unseen, unrevealed characters, vehicles, environment and so on."
-"The Cortana reveal is the first evidence that this trailer might be for Halo 3, but the game's main protagonist is the item that seals that deal. CJ explains, 'It is the Chief, back on a devastated and Covenant controlled Earth, standing over the excavation of a structure buried in the crust of our own planet that is the meat of our demo.' "
-"I (art director Marcus Lehto) wanted to make sure that we re-introduced the Chief, show that Earth is thoroughly conquered, with Covenant everywhere, and that there is a glorious, ancient artifact buried under the Earth’s crust which will provide H3 with the epic journey which we all want."
-"Asked about the battered state of the Chief's armor, Marcus ventured, "The Chief is shown as warrior who has seen horrific battle – and it shows." "
-"I (Marty O'Donnell) want them to feel pride and longing the moment Master Chief walks out of the smoke,"

Second thing: "I am your veal, I am your pork"
--------------------------------------------------------------
The multitude of what people think Cortana is saying is staggering. I've read everything from source, to sword, to soul... there have already been Mods who have specifically tried to end these debates before, and even reading what the Audio director said doesn't convince them. But just in case you are all wondering, no matter what you think, it's "I am your shield, I am your sword. And here is why:
-"Well, according to Marty O'Donnell, who really should know... it's 'sword'."
---
Third Point: "The chief is talking to other Spartans with sign language!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The "Communication lights" so prevelantly talked about in multiple threads are actually lightning flashes from the storm the chief is looking at. (The storm above the artifact).
While some believe that there is a frame in which it can be nothing but light communication, the below screenshot images of the teaser should explain it.
Disproving the "Light Communication Theory"

Fourth Point: "Aliens are my friends. Jesus tells me so!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There have been threads started claiming that the covenant are now the chief's allies. This is based off of the teaser footage showing covenant ships passing right by MC and not firing a single shot at him. Several posters have brought up good points (there's a really big other thing happening, and killing MC might not be on the top of the Covenant's list of things to do.
The eye of the storm that is above the artifact, is probably caused by the Forerunner ship that MC hitched a ride on at the end of Halo2. If such is the case, and if the covenant are now the chief's allies, then they would be tearing into orbit to shoot the crap out of that forerunner ship.
Some say that the covenant ships look surprised with the artifact starts to open up. Could be they weren't expecting such a shockwave to pulse out from it, and decided to leave. The covenant obviously want to take a look at the artifact, and they dont want to destroy it, otherwise they'd be shooting the crap out if it.
From the video, you can see a couple of large Covenant ships sitting relatively close to the artifact until it opens up. If you look closely, you'll the see the shockwave hits them, and pushed them slightly away from it. After this point, the artifact opens up, and the big ships move out of the way. If they would have stayed put, they would have gotten hit by the large walls rising.
Hope this helped, but really, I hope this stops the flow of new posts and threads talking about the nonsense they have been.
