EDIT - H2V hates these kinda mods. Looks like I can't check for you Sliding Ghost until I find my Xbox.
Well thanks for looking. Take your time. I'm going to see for myself.

It's odd because on the Xbox everything works fine with these kinds of mods, I can play as a Marine, Elite, Flood, you name it with no trouble. With Halo 2 Vista however, it either spawns me in a wall (instant death) or loops the intro cutscene or just crashes immediately. You may have better luck but in any case, I apologise for being unable to confirm your question at this time.

The video on Youtube was not a mod, that was pure Halo 2 on Xbox 360. Halo 2 Vista isn't letting me check to see if I can enter a Pelican as a Marine myself without modding the seat because it keeps crashing. Those kind of mods only work on the original Xbox.

As for the video, i'm going to try to recreate this with a Ghost or Scorpion on hand when I get the time (which again to reiterate, was without mods)
Pure awesomeness. Keep us informed on your progress, this is really cool. Maybe you could figure out the key to getting in...maybe stack a player on a Banshee (for height) or something.

Oh, I forgot to ask, the Pelican was still, right? It was pointed nose up when he got in?

Also, if one player rides and the other stays back, maybe figure out if a marine will get back in. That way, if he does re-AI the Pelican, you could yank it to the tunnel part, lol.

P1 rides Pelican
P2 stays back at HQ
Marine enters driver's seat
P1 gets back into the Pelican
P2 runs to the lz and pulls P1 and the Pelican to the tunnel
Speculation; Pelican weird's out in the tunnel...Marine pilot flies around in a rage killing all.

The cutscene looping in H2 Vista happens when you touch certain tags, notably biped. As a result, I can't even adjust my jump height. :(

That's alright. Thanks for considering.

Ha ha, here's another one for SG. At the end of Metropolis a bunch of Pelicans fly along but every so often one turns and fires missiles. This particular Pelican can be ridden and if you ride it, it will eventually fail and become flippable. This is repeatable so you could have 20 or 30 or more Pelicans to fool with. It takes having the Banshee over there for this to be realistically done.

Ah the Pelican was flipping wildly and as it slowed down and the cockpit reached the ground, a marine decided to hop in so essentially the Pelican levelled out. Will be interesting to see if we can get the Pelican to level out in front of a Marine and if they get back in or not every time, could definitely be the start of something here.

To your scenario, I would be terrified to see the Marine at that point xD

Is there still risk of splatter? I'm allergic to H2 physics.

Also, can marines ride in Pelicans in H2 like in H3:

Are there any levels in Halo 2 that have infinitely spawning marines?

Marines in Halo 2 can ride the Pelican. On Metropolis, when the Pelican drops off the 3 Marines just before you go to the Marine HQ, if you get back in quick enough, the Marines will follow you back into the Pelican and out the map.

Does that include the marines from earlier or just the ones that get out of the Pelican?

Well back in the old Xbox days whenever i flew a Pelican, any Marine/Elite would get in provided there was room left so i'm assuming it's the same situation.

Ok, last question. Can they fire at enemies while in the Pelican?

I can't guarantee from memory unfortunately :/ only one way to find out, I could attempt to check but I won't be able to until sometime tomorrow.
